Immigration salience has less to do with aggregate Immigration numbers than
- visibility of boats & asylum > visas
- general vibes about integration
- elite cues from media & political discourse in shaping public perceptions

This is more true when immigration is falling then when it is rising

This is one of the pictures the Justice Department removed from the Epstein files release:

A picture of a table with framed photos of Epstein and famous people. There are two photos of Trump in the picture — including one of him surrounded by women in bathing suits.

Muting a Black woman to claim the vote was unanimous is so incredibly on the nose
The White House claims the vote to rename the Kennedy Center was “unanimous.” That is false. I was muted on the call and denied the opportunity to speak or register my opposition. That is not consensus. That is censorship.

There was a swing toward Trump across the whole country, but it was bigger in the states exposed to very little campaign messaging. Harris presidential campaign messages appear to have been more effective than Trump's. She lost b/c of that general swing, likely caused by economic concerns. /2

A quite startling overperformance for Democrats in tonight's special election for a state Senate seat in Kentucky:

Democrat Gary Clemons won 72% to 25%.

He was defending a Dem-held seat where Kamala Harris beat Trump by 5% last year.

Everyone is focused on the "alcoholic personality" quote, but what Wiles is essentially saying is that she can work with Trump because she learned to manage her alcoholic, abusive father. Props for self-awareness, I guess, but did she confuse this reporter with her therapist?

Rob Reiner was one of the key people behind the effort to go to court to overturn California's anti-marriage equality Proposition 8 when it passed in 2008.

Working with Chad Griffin, they founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights and got Ted Olson and David Boies to team up to fight Prop 8.

Remembering the time in CCD as a child when I raised my hand really high and eager like IF GOD LOVES US WHY IS THERE SUFFERING??? And the teacher, Mrs Murphy, a mother of three with a thick Brooklyn accent, sighed, pinched the bridge of her nose, and said, “Donegan, I’m having a hard day, alright?”

Polling: "Do you think the rich have too much political power in the U.S.?"

Yes: 80%
No: 8%

Independent voters are 81%/6% on this; even Trump voters are 68%/18%.

Maybe a political party could lead on this issue.

One issue with voter registration is that there’s the strong temptation for people to chuck forms with “obviously fake” names but the reality is there are tons of real people who legitimately have the names of fictional characters.

Even accounting for the new congressional maps, a swing like Aftyn Behn's (Trump+22 to D-8.6) would net Dems 259 seats in the midterms.

Even if the swing is *half* of tonight's, Dems win the House with 229 seats

Some angry QTs on this on the assumption that I'm trashing Harris. Not at all. There was a silly "Harris may be nationalizing the race" narrative when she made stops in district, but big GOP money - which I pay more attention to as a campaign reporter - was flowing in right before Harris got there.
Kamala will take some blame if Behn loses - which is what everyone would have expected three weeks ago.

But to be fair, the day she got there, the Club for Growth was already spending panic money on ads for Republican voters.

Just in the last few mins more votes have come in, and total turnout in this special stands at 96% of the 2022 November election. With more votes coming in Nashville, it could EXCEED 2022.

The GOP can't explain this double digit swing away with their old excuses of low turnout.
The Dem (Behn) will fall short in the TN7 special, but what happened was a double digit margin swing from last year.

GOPs try to explain these special elections away by saying they are just low turnout and their voters will come out next November.

That's not true here...
