I wanted to ask the western comp splatoon community, is there an upcoming lan tournament next march? I’m planning to visit the states around that time, and I’d love to come and spectate if there is one.

This sounds more like it has terrible matchmaking and a poor internal MMR system than an inherent problem with the game.

These arguments mirror the casual player experience for many shooters almost exactly, and the issue is usually loose/inaccurate SBMM

Metonymy is everywhere, we use it constantly in language. I’ve found the word itself quite useful, it’s both precise and compact for the exact phenomenon described here :)

“Pro” can work as metonymy for “highly skilled competitive” and there isn’t anything wrong with that.

It’s like how “Olympic level” can be applied to things that aren’t in the actual Olympics.

Language is flexible like that.

For the past four weeks, every Monday I’ve been either too sick to work or I’ve had the day off due to corporate holiday. Next week is another corporate holiday, bringing it up to five.

Should I go for the full eight Mondays in a row? I have unlimited PTO, but I’m sure my boss will side eye me lmao

Also, could you engage in a less entitled manner? Could you instead ask specific questions you’d like clarity on instead of demanding I cater to you specifically and try to cloak it in the language of social justice? I engage with almost every idea in that thread and go pretty deep to expand.

The only word in that thread that can be shifted into a wordier alternative is “ostensibly”. “Rehabilitative”, “punitive”, and “retributive” are concepts that cannot be broken down further, they’re part of the language necessary to engage with discussions of justice.

It’s not “just” wanting Jared gone because he’s shown signs of being a better person. None of this thread shows that until pushed back on it, that’s just the more defensible claim.

Yeah that visceral feeling of discomfort is intentional, but the parallel is appropriate. The republican talking points are about maximizing punishment with no path towards reintegration. They’re appeals to emotion that hijack language that makes people clutch their pearls.
