Then lets have people subscribe to short story magazines, new and old!
Publishers are noting a shift in industry mindset around short stories as readers embrace shorter works, with a number feeling like “something is slowly shifting” and that “there’s a real excitement around stories again” 👇 #BookSky

The BCS Patreon has fallen below the monthly amount we need to keeping paying our authors a pro rate and our First Readers a worthy honorarium. Sometimes folks need to lower or pause their support; we understand. But <1% of our readership donates or supports. www.patreon.com/beneath_ceas... 1/2

One of the most offensive (lacking a better word) claims people make about "AI" is that they work the same as human creativity. As if someone writing a story just added a couple things we've seen before together and *bam* something new. That is not how it works at all.

I just came to the realization that a short story magazine could, theoreitically, sue a person for damages if they inexplicably accepted a LLM generated story despite the submitter confirming on the submission that it wasnt. It fits all the criteria.

How any editor could let this go by knowing that llms are a thing...for shame. It should get someone fired for letting this slop through.
It's a multiple failure of editing; first of the editor in "assigning" the piece to "AI," and second in not knowing enough about what they've "assigned" to understand that the output is bullshit. In a different era, this would have gotten someone fired.
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?

Cheap choices make cheap product. No thanks to generated slop.
Hate this a lot. Value human creators, writers, artists, narrators, editors -- everyone in the chain of making a book and putting it out into the world should be a human being. Humans make art for humans.

Lots of things clicked after reading and analyzing it. Really this story is what brought me down the path of writing a lot of short stories and flash.
