I ran my 2017 NDP leadership campaign on the principle that a "social-democratic" party must be grounded in the principle of an empowered grassroots.
Modern political theory is "leader" focused with all the power given to sell leader over policy.
My gut says grassroots.
Last blog post for 2024.🥂

Today's rant is how empowering (and funding!) local riding associations can drive a left-wing political renewal in Canada. Time to modernize them, and turn them into grassroots movements on a local scale.

Organize! Mobilize! Localize! – How Empowered Local Riding Associations Can Drive A Political Renewal
Canada needs a political renewal. No – I don’t mean a new party in government, but that could help, if that new government were more aligned with people than just profit, power, or ego.…

Anderson Cooper: So it's more expensive to allow a chronically homeless person to live on the streets than it is to actually subsidize an apartment for them?

Answer: Yes, we are paying more as taxpayers to walk past that person on the street & do nothing…

Tonight was the volunteer appreciation night for Garry and Amna’s campaign.

It was amazing spending the evening with friends who all worked hard to get Garry and Amna elected.

Can’t wait to see all the great things these two accomplish for the people of Surrey. 🧡

Lately I have felt really defeated by what seems like an unstoppable conservative majority that is coming to Canada.

However, we need to fight back.

The odds might be against us (on the left) but they are not impossible.

Time to work twice as hard.

Time for some hope and hard work.

When Pierre Poilievre loses (which happens a lot), Canadians win. Tonight is another example: our NDP team is voting for tax relief for Canadians, while Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives continue to protect billionaires.

The GST Tax Holiday on essentials is a good start let’s go further!

Huge vicotry out in Nova Scotia for the Progressive Conservatives.

I’m happy for them. They’ve been a great Conservative government. I only wish Conservatives across the country would be more like them.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

I cannot imagine how hard it must be for Sarah to be put in this situation.

The grace she has shown is truly admirable.

It is an incredible honour, and a responsibility that I take very seriously.

Reconciliation is a key priority for our government. And it’s more than that. It is foundational to our collective future. #BCPoli
