Ross Douthat, in a column he wrote to try to get the right to distance themselves from Fuentes-style antisemitism, made the point that left-wing critics have always made: you can criticize Israel without being antisemitic.

Since October 11, the first full day of the ceasefire, Israel has killed at least 87 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded 311, while 432 bodies have been recovered from under the rubble, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. jonnyrashid.substack.com/p/a-ceasefir...
A ceasefire does not mean we should end our advocacy
The genocide in Gaza drew the eyes of the world; a ceasefire should not cause us to avert them.

What role to Mennonites play in the fight against authoritarianism?

The ceasefire is good news. But Palestine won't be free until the ongoing Nakba and occupation end forever.

Ross Douthat is correct that Trump's biggest vulnerability for turning the U.S. completely into a fascist state is that he won't be in power for long enough and he isn't popular enough. The New York Times allowed Ross to make a case for three terms for Trump and to offer a blueprint for fascism.

I'm not saying Hamas should be governing Gaza, but it's ridiculous to draft a ceasefire plan that requires them to be removed from governance. They are a negotiating party. No one would take that deal. The plan is just a way to further the genocide.

Liberals who lament the death of Charlie Kirk with the same words they do for lynchings are merely offering their shallow condolences. They lack any political or power analysis that might affect structural oppression because the status quo benefits them.

Surprisingly, I appreciate Ross Douthat's exhortation, but he fails to see that the things that divide us are not merely political. We have moved into existential territory, which needs a genuine response, not just less intensity. People's lives are at stake.

I'm curious if the same people who condemned the assassination of Charlie Kirk in the name of the sanctity of life will denounce the death penalty for his killer.

If this week has taught us anything, it's that the mainstream press will tell us Donald Trump passionately and courageously governed in the right way when he dies.
September 13, 2025 at 5:39 PM
Why is it that when police kill an unarmed Black person, the media tells us all about that person's rap sheet, but when Charlie Kirk dies, the same press sanitizes him? Answer: white supremacy.
