Oh yeah, I have a new book out! A goofy horror comedy/ homage to campy horror movies, right on time for Halloween season! 🎃

Good morning #authors, what are we working on this week?

I just wrapped up a big beat in my story so I’m planning the next beat / sequence & writing it this week.

So happy to have crossed it! Somedays I can’t believe how big this book is 😆

This weekend I hit 100k words making this officially the biggest book I’ve ever worked on, and there’s still plenty more to go! Estimated 40k to 80k words left, which seems daunting but I’ve already written more than half the book, so I know it’s doable!

Same, I’ve gotten “used” to it but “used” is a relative term. Hard to turn off the inner perfectionist fully

Sounds like a great trip! Plus the rest & scenery and people you got to experience it with could be great inspiration.

I know that feeling well enough! 😆

#PlotTober My MC has been so beaten down by so many external demands & has felt led astray by false promises in her career & marriage. She’s too risk averse to leave & believes that the world exists only to use people. The culmination of these beliefs is the entire reason why she’s on the expedition

8. What are some potential reasons the main character(s) haven't, couldn't, and/or can't pursue these goals yet? Consider other characters, backstory events, circumstances, environmental factors, etc.

Remember: Use the #PlotTober hashtag, engage with others, and have fun!

That’s a great way to describe pantsing! You’re just the muse for the characters while they do whatever the heck the want to do 😄
jonathankwebb.com
Such is the life of a pantser, sometimes you wanna go somewhere but the story demands you do something else 😄

Tbh most of this book so far is pretty much “depressed woman just exists on the sidelines while things happen around her & she uses those things to reflect on her life” but in the Forest of Plot she’s actually doing things! 😆
jonathankwebb.com
My characters have been stuck in a forest for 40k words. I don’t want this book to be about people stuck in a forest but apparently this is the Forest of Plot™️ since so much story is happening here. I’m like: this is great & all but this is supposed to be an adventure book, let’s move it! 🤣 #writing

#PlotTober: I’ve been listening some some dark introspective ambient music whenever I write, so pretty much anything in that genre 😄

Is there a song that instantly makes you think of your MC?

Went to a book launch event last night for a local author and had a great time. I think I’m going to attend more of these. I love supporting my local writing community!

Yeah that’s definitely true. I have a much deeper appreciation for the art now.

I never really liked literary fiction until I started taking my writing seriously. Now I can’t get enough of it.

Any other writers out there the same way?

Halfway through writing it. We'll see how she turns out!

Two so far, but planning on many more!

#PlotTober: Why does my depressed MC who has given up on finding purpose care about finding purpose? Because for the first time ever in her adult life she feels like there's a chance, even if she herself doesn't actually believe she'll find purpose in her journey, that sliver of hope is enough.

7. Now that you've come up with some goals for your main character, ask yourself: why do they care? What are some potential motivations for pursuing these goals, even against their better judgment or self-interest?

Remember: Use the #PlotTober hashtag, engage with others, and have fun!

This has been my solution too. As long as I enjoy the process and I put something out there that I want to exist, I am happy. If anyone reads it then all the better, but it's not a requirement.

Been thinking of this one all morning: Being stuck in the "boring middle" of a first draft. Sometimes it feels like the end is so far away, but the middle must happen so I push onward!

oh this is a good answer, I feel ya!

My characters have been stuck in the same place for like 20k words, I’m so ready for them to leave this place. Luckily their stay is almost done, but as an over-writer it’s going to take another 5k to 10k words to properly wrap up this section 😅
