As National announces more roads
It's a goal of mine to help make this the most famous, well-known and UNDERSTOOD quote about cities in history. Please share it as much as you can.

Does your local grocery store look like this?

If not, it’s probably because:
1) zoning created large distances between housing & stores.
2) the streets between housing & stores are unsafe for biking.
3) there isn’t any/enough bike parking

Yes this is sad 😔 I spent many hours there browsing the racks in the 80s/90s… obviously the same century Beck & Lee are living in- who in their right mind drives to Queens Arcade to pick up a CD? 🤯 #carbrain

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

WATCH & SHARE: This is very good. A prominent youtuber is actually giddy (but also very thorough in covering the joys, advantages, issues and challenges) about how trying biking for transportation in London has changed his life.

Easy to watch & more convincing probably than 99% of public campaigns.

It’s REALLY important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against downtown bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of the evidence that they are better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Bike-lanes mean business.

Many thanks to paying subscribers for pushing this over 100 likes. I've opened it up for full public reading, listening & sharing. It also includes an audio embed of an interview with Jesse Mulligan for RNZ Afternoons, which was broadcast today. Chocks away! Ngā mihi nui. Bernard #nzpol
Slash blamed in climate change-free flash-flood coverage
Pine forest waste dams rivers & wipes out campground in Tasman; Media coverage again fails to cite climate change; Power users demand reform; Govt wants 30,000 more working foreign students

Thank you! I was starting to think I was living in an alternative reality after reading article after article on RNZ about the recent flooding with no mention of #climatechange

It's actually unbelievable - at least 5 recent articles on RNZ citing "unpredictable" "devasting" "once in 100 years event" etc. and not one mention of WHY the floods might be occurring 😣 #JoinTheDots #climateaction

“Nasa data reveals dramatic rise in intensity of weather events. Extreme events such as floods and droughts are becoming more frequent, longer-lasting and more severe, study says.”

Obviously.

That’s what #ClimateChange does.

Makes the bad things more likely, and worse.

More likely. And worse.

So @legallyfeminist.bsky.social here’s an example for the abuse files - NZ Herald put up an article about my accident on their FB and while there are lots of sympathetic comments there are also quite a number celebrating or laughing or asking disingenuous questions. Herald has had to close comments.
Looking forward to getting back into this get-up once my broken foot heals 🙃 #ubersux
Hey @bikeauckland.bsky.social Bike train on Te Huia would be a great #biketober event! 🚂🚲🥳
In the 1930s-1940s, the Bicycle Dealers Association of Southern California organized a number of Cycle Trains, which took riders and their bikes from Los Angeles to other cities for a change of scenery.

LIFE magazine followed one from Los Angeles to San Diego on August 11, 1946.
