@jogobehavioursupport.com
A specialist support service for children and young people and their families who are experiencing social, emotional and mental health difficulties. https://www.jogobehavioursupport.com/
A quick grounding game, touching wall, floor, chair and self helps children reconnect with their bodies and reduce tension. These playful resets support group regulation, prevent dysregulation and create a shared sense of calm.

Kindness can quietly transform a school day. A Kindness Tree helps pupils notice and celebrate small caring acts. As the leaves fill, it reminds everyone that kindness is present, even in a busy term, and encourages more of it.

A 10-minute “special play time” at home lets the child lead while the adult follows, without teaching or correcting. These small, attuned moments build trust, connection and support the child’s therapeutic journey.

December brings many demands. Today, choose one task or expectation to release. Protecting your energy helps you stay present and models healthy boundaries for children. Small adjustments can create calm in a busy term.

Emotion check-ins help adults understand how children start the day. Invite pupils to make a personal emotion symbol or pebble to place on the board each morning. This encourages reflection, normalises emotional awareness, and highlights who may need extra support.  #jogoadventcalendar2025

December can stretch families thin. Even five minutes of shared play—a guessing game, silly walk, or made-up sound—builds connection, lowers stress, and creates warm memories that support emotional resilience.

As the Christmas break nears, some children feel excited, others anxious. A simple pausing activity, like icing biscuits, offers calm, structure and connection. Letting children decorate and naming feelings helps them feel safe, in control and ready for the break.

Children thrive when their strengths are noticed by peers. In group sessions, invite each child to name a strength they’ve seen in someone else. This builds kindness, trust and self-esteem, and encourages more cooperative, supportive groups. #JogoBehaviourSupport #JogoAdventCalendar2025

The end of term can feel intense. A brief staff check-in gives space to breathe and reconnect. Ask one question like “What helped today feel settled?” These small pauses build team support and create a calmer climate for pupils. #jogobehavioursupport #jogoadventcalendar2025

Jogo recently received the most fabulous testimonial and it truly made our day. Hearing how the work we do together makes a difference is such an honour and a beautiful reminder of why we love this work so much.

One of my favourite playroom “toys” is FOAM! Messy play lets children create, change, squash, and even destroy and that can beautifully reflect how they are feeling inside. It gives them a safe, sensory way to express big emotions without needing words.

A Sensory Calm Box is a powerful support for overwhelmed children. December is a good time to refresh worn or missing items. Soft textures, quiet fidgets and breathing cards offer grounding and show children their needs matter, helping staff respond early.

I didn’t have one favourite toy growing up, I preferred creating whole make-believe worlds. Sometimes with friends, inventing endless stories, or on my own teaching my toys or running a “shop” with my mum’s kitchen equipment.

Children listen best when they feel understood. Starting with connection, not correction, reduces shame and calms big feelings. Phrases like “Something feels hard, I’m here” build trust while keeping boundaries clear. Empathy helps children hear guidance and regulate.  #jogoadventcalendar2025

My favourite toy in my Play Therapy kit is a small mouse that is on a wedge of cheese! It can be placed in the playroom door to slow down any potential intruders to our space! The children love and trust mousey, so do I.

Morning greetings set the emotional tone for the day. A smile, eye contact or using a child’s name helps them feel safe and welcome. Notice which pupils may need extra connection. Consistent routines reduce anxiety and help children settle, learn and engage.

The 5–4–3–2–1 technique helps settle busy minds by using the senses. Children can make a small “calm card” with symbols for each sense, giving them a simple regulation tool and supporting calmer, more confident learners.

December is busy and emotional. Pause and name one thing that went well today—however small. These moments send our nervous system safety and hope, and show children that progress happens even on challenging days.

My favourite childhood toy was the game ‘Guess Who’ because it meant fun calm one to one time with a parent or friend.

My favourite toys are my puppet snake and dinosaur.

They are played with in therapy to express and process the feelings , behaviours, actions and thoughts of the client and others.

My favourite toy is slime.  It has powerful therapeutic value.  Its sensory nature helps children regulate, express emotions, and feel in control.

My favourite toy are squeeze toys. They offer a simple, non-verbal outlet for stress and big feelings and they can be surprisingly powerful.

Suspend by Melissa & Doug. This game is a brilliant mix of strategy and motor skills. Balance your rods on the stand and be the first to use them all, but if any fall, you have to take them back!  It's a great way to explore persistence and managing setbacks.

My favourite toy was my Cindy Dolls as you could create a whole new world for them, dressing them up in their different outfits, creating personalities for them and play out new scenarios.
