Starting October 15, six CTA buses will operate with Automated Bus Lane Enforcement systems as part of the City of Chicago’s Smart Streets pilot.
Automated bus lane, bus stop, and bike lane enforcement starts Wednesday, October 15th Keeping bus stops clear is essential to ensuring that transit is accessible to everyone especially people with disabilities. Bus lanes and bus stops are for buses. Bike lanes are for bikes.
Keeping them clear is essential to ensuring everyone in Chicago gets where they need to go, safely and on time. That's why we're launching automated bus lane, bus stop, and bike lane enforcement to improve rider safety and transit efficiency.

*regional day pass, but my point still stands!

I am guessing that fewer than 1000 regional day passes have been purchased since they launched

Every time my mom has visited the city via Metra/CTA this year, she’s tried to buy the Regional Connect Pass. She’s been unsuccessful every time because it’s designed SO TERRIBLY. I sent her this graphic today.

Can Metra/CTA/RTA release numbers on how many people are using it successfully?

As a long-time Regional Connect Pass user, I've created a quick flowchart to help you purchase the new Regional Day Pass. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple!
A flow chart to purchase and use the new Regional Day Pass:

STEP 1: Do you have a smartphone:
No: Sorry, Regional Day Pass is only available on the Ventra app.
Yes: continue to Step 2

STEP 2: Do you have a Ventra card?
No: Does your smartphone have a virtual wallet? If no, try again next time after you buy a Ventra card from a Ventra vending machine. If yes, set up a virtual Ventra card in the app and continue to Step 3.
Yes: Make sure your card is linked to your account in the Ventra app and continue to Step 3.

STEP 3: Did you already take a CTA or Pace trip today?
Yes, whoops: Thank you for your donation and continue to purchase a Metra Day Pass in the app, then continue to Step 4.
No: Purchase a Metra Day Pass in the app, then continue to Step 4.

STEP 4: Did you select "Add a Regional Day Pass" after making your Metra ticket purchase?
No, whoops: Better luck next time; RDP can only be purchased immediately after buying your Metra ticket.
Yes: Continue to Step 5.

STEP 5: Did you link it to the correct Ventra card in your account:
No, whoops: Better luck next time; make sure to link your RDP to the specific Ventra card you'll be using for the day.
Yes: Success! You're all set. Safe travels!

New American Record in the marathon for Connor Mantz!!!

Chicago is the fastest marathon in the world. I love this city
Conner Mantz makes HISTORY in Chicago with a 2:04:49 fourth-place finish, the fastest time ever run by an American.
Mantz breaks Khalid Khannouchi's 23-year-old
American record of 2:05:48, as well as the all-conditions best of 2:04:58 set by Ryan Hall in 2011.

Reminder to never forgive the plumbers union for poisoning generations of Chicagoans with lead because their greed kept the city to mandate lead pipes and union labor.

Also, never forgive the NIMBYs who refuse to streamline newer + safer housing options that aren’t as old as dinosaurs

Remember being told to “turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth” to save the planet?

Thankfully that’s a pretty meaningless action! Because in Chicago we are now told to run our sinks for 5 minutes before drinking water each morning to flush out the lead in our century-old-homes’ pipes
Tweet from @dustindrury

in the 90s it was
reduce, reuse, recycle
turn off lights & conserve electricity turn off the faucet when brushing your teeth eat less meat & carpool
in the 2020s it's
consumeeeeeeeee & don't think about the consequences

I’m so struck by this video. A regular day in Logan Square in front of a grocery store and ICE pulls up and tear gassed people. Funston Elementary School is right across the street as well. This is a major corridor in Logan Sq. No concern for human safety

G3 warning just posted by NOAA SWPC due to ongoing enhanced conditions (wind speed ~700 km/s and ~10 nT with mostly negative Bz). More substorms are possible tonight with extended auroral visibility to the central U.S. Stay tuned!

To be fair I did leave the lakefront right before a second, stronger substorm emerged 😭

I’m still in disbelief that I was able to catch these 4 magnificent displays over Lake Michigan from within Chicago city limits. You will never get me to stop talking about these moments!

In case any Chicagoans felt FOMO about the northern lights recently, I’ll admit I saw nothing the last 2 nights.

Chicagoans: your alderman can now choose to “opt-in” for more new housing (accessory dwelling units) in their entire ward, like Ald. Fuentes did.

Want more housing in your neighborhood? Call your alderman and tell them to opt in the entire ward ASAP or they’ll lose your vote.
abundanthousingil.bsky.social
Ald. Fuentes plans to "opt in" the entire 26th Ward to allow accessory dwelling units! 🎉

Without opt-in: 31% of 26th Ward allows ADUs
With opt-in: 💯

Thanks to Ald. Fuentes, thousands of additional homeowners in Humboldt Park, Logan Square, and Hermosa will be able to build an ADU as-of-right. 🏘️

we need so many more 26-year-olds like @drakefor10.bsky.social running for public office

“So being technically oriented myself as an engineer and also being a huge extrovert, loving people, loving to learn broadly and understand a lot of different things, this is the best way I feel like I can be of service. So the choice to enter public service came from falling in love with a Chicago, having something that gave me a motivation and a reason to want to serve, to want to be a steward of something bigger than my own life, and then seeing a capacity that I could actually be substantially different from what's been normal in Chicago. So I've gotten involved in volunteering with Abundant Housing Illinois, which is Chicago's awesome chapter of YIMBY Action.”

Seriously, if someone values high pay per hour with only a few years training, job security for 30+ years, the potential to travel at will, and the feeling you’re contributing to a better world, training as an electrician isn’t a bad strategy.
