A triumphant story, and a true one... "Bring Them Home" narrated by Lily Gladstone is wonderful. Grateful for this work to rewild buffalo. It's streaming free on PBS right now. Good news for troubling times. Have a look: www.pbs.org/show/bring-t... #movies #documentary #environment #gratitude

Thanks to Julie for her insightful analysis of deep symbolic meaning of this trip to DC for those of us excluded from policy for far too long... have a read at the link below. Zohran keeps showing up + surviving, as the good leader NYers like me have been hoping for, for so long. #NYC #Mamdani

Bird flu, avian influenza, H5N5 contagion and fatality in humans happening... hoping the best for the 100 exposed healthcare workers.
This was the H5N5 patient.

"Public health officials are continuing to monitor anyone who was in contact with the patient — including more than 100 health care workers — for symptoms to ensure that human-to-human spread has not occurred."

Bird flu patient dies, marking second U.S. fatality in 2025
The Washington state resident, an older adult with underlying conditions, was infected with a strain that has previously been reported in animals but never before in humans.

Read Samuel Stein's "Capital City" today, and found the chapter 4 on "developer president" sure explains a lot. I had no idea of the history there, esp affecting where I live, NYC. Highly recommend this book! Depressing (glad my bunny Maxi can't read) but honestly, worth it. #Booksky #NYC

Fracked gas is a real hazard, not only for New Yorkers, but everyone touched in the process - plants, animals, people. Gratitude to Food & Water Watch for leading the opposition to Hochul's plan. #climate #publichealth #environment
This is unacceptable. By folding to Trump, @governor.ny.gov has helped to fast-track his agenda.
"In granting the certification for this pipeline, Governor Hochul has not only sided with Trump, she’s fast-tracked his agenda,” Laura Shindell, New York State director with @foodandwater.bsky.social

A beautiful reminder, thanks to Cristina Mittermeier for this rousing talk on our human place with in Mother Nature on an Ocean Planet! Link in the post below:
At Climate Week NYC, award-winning environmental photographer, conservationist, and SeaLegacy co-founder Cristina Mittermeier joined Atmos to talk about our deep sea relatives, the existential crises facing our ocean, and how we can find hope in the age of collapse.

Congrats to Madhu and Stefan for publishing their critical insights (below). Public health protections by access to care for essential vaccinations is our birthright, I believe. Otherwise, the biomedical miracle of vaccination is not being realized... #publichealth #Vaccination #Healthcareaccess
Access to vaccines is not a privilege — it is a human right.

In @statnews.com today, Stefan Peterson and I write about using a human rights-based approach to deal with vaccine denialism and the return of measles, whooping cough and diphtheria

Kids have a right to vaccinations. Let's bring in the lawyers
Children suffering from diseases that should have been consigned to history is a moral failure. Access to vaccines is a human right.

Sadly the #eugenics and #racism Watson erroneously attributed to DNA + genes are very much alive today. Watson ran Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory when I worked there... back in my genetics research days with Barbara McClintock, with his unkind, harmful views on full display.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

1 of many things I love about Zohran Mamdani, his inclusion of factual history + realism in his views - a great reminder in his clip below! Proud to vote for him + finally have a choice of someone I believe in, know + trust as Mayor. #vote #nyc #zohranmamdani
UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 5: Vito Marcantonio

There are many who dismiss our vision for New York as impossible. To them, I say we need look only to our past for proof of how we can shape the future.

Agreed! Voting early today felt so so good. I wasn't anticipating the rush of positivity I experienced, just after I voted for Zohran. Dopamine I guess, or just plain old hope. My family's known him for 20 years here in NYC. I trust him! #ZohranMamdani
