This movie’s a banger - top 90s b-movie noir, yet super well acted and emotional.

… call mass psychosis. (See: “The ‘Shared Psychosis’ of Donald Trump and His Loyalists” in “Scientific American,” 1/11/21).

Until Democrats ACKNOWLEDGE this problem and baldly lay out a plan to remediate it, millions of people will continue to vote for people like Trump.

… , QAnon & QAnon-adjacent believers, vaccine conspiracists, rabid doubters of doctors and scientists and teachers and journalists and other trained professionals, etc. Again, that was all just salient manifestations of the larger, more nebulous problem that for lack of a better term I have to (5/6)

There has been a MASSIVE mental health crisis building up in America over the last decade. And I am not talking about the homeless person standing on the corner shouting crazy stuff (though that is the visible tip of the iceberg). Nor just about all that 2020 / 2021 revealed: COVID denial (4/)

… On the latter point, none other than moderate/right-wing NYT columnist David Brooks acknowledged this in his November 28, 2024, election post-mortem “The Moral Challenge of Trumpism.” (3/)

… because that generously (but naively and blindly) ignores the fact that large swathes of the country are no longer smart enough to be swayed by the most logical policies or forms of communication; and, more importantly, they are unabashedly *amoral* by all the basic standards. (2/)
jimburlingame.bsky.social
ALSO: the repeated handwringing over how the Democrats should have / should have had different policies and different communication approaches and different candidates in order to more effectively win over voters is SO myopic and misguided. (1/)

BINGO. This administration has been transparent about wanting to push oversight and funding for all aspects of education to states. If parents live in a state (like mine) that prioritizes supporting special education, they’re in luck; if they don’t, their family will be put through hell.

BINGO

Trump himself told us enough about the kind of person he was when he campaigned the first time.

Sounds like the Scrooge McDuck dialogue from “The Last Days of Disco”

Sure, maybe there are plenty like me who click the hidden button out of curiosity. Or maybe there aren’t, and you’ll just be like an angry person mumbling in a dark corner away from the party.
jimburlingame.bsky.social
Sure, try that a few times and see whether people tell you it’s been hidden or not.
jimburlingame.bsky.social
BTW by swearing at people here, your comment gets “hidden.” So if you want to engage in dialogue, perhaps being “respectable” is the way to go.

** Lol “the hallway in between”
jimburlingame.bsky.social
The real, the fake, and the hallway in between are all part of a homogeneous ocean online. That’s the Faustian bargain we agreed to when we made the internet central to our lives 30 years ago 🫤

Anyone who uses ANY swear words in a response to me I call an internet troll and deny them any further dialogue. It’s allowing rude behavior and communication to be normalized that led millions to re-elect their avatar of no inhibitions, the Internet Troll-in-Chief, back to the White House.

FYI your comment was “hidden”

My 16 year-old wants to see it simply because of the NIN score (and Depeche Mode being on the soundtrack too). Well probably go in the morning if they’re over their cold. Their BFF already saw it Friday. And these kids have NOT seen the first two!

Yup. People like that make me recall how “Animal Farm” turned out.
jimburlingame.bsky.social
It turned out Keaton said the opposite on this topic after 2018?
jimburlingame.bsky.social
Brilliant, Jerry! This one sings like it floated out the window of the Brill Building.
jimburlingame.bsky.social
That’s crazy that headline doesn’t include “Annie Hall”!

… because he’s the avatar of how they want to be, living without consequences, especially when it comes to treating others harshly. It’s turtles all the way down, and if we don’t budge when it comes to demanding civil treatment from strangers online, than we’ll soon just get another Trump. (2/2)
