All over the world we are plumbing depths I would not have believed existed 20 years ago. I figured one big benefit of a media-saturated age would be restraints on evil-doers due to an inability to hide their deeds.

Turns out they didn't need to hide. The evil just carried on and the world watched.

"They hate us for our freedom!"

[watches endless stream of videos of masked government militia brutally assault people and grab them off the streets]

"They hate you for your what now?"

Morrissey's tragic death at the end of the 80s was made so much worse by that far-right imposter trying to tarnish his legacy.

Good Boy is AWESOME. Kinda reminded me of when Blair Witch Project first came out, in that it's obviously a gimmick movie but it works because it doesn't use the gimmick as an excuse to not make a good horror movie as well.

Brace yourselves. 20 years of awful ripoffs are coming.

Catherine Connolly used to open the tin of Afternoon Tea biscuits before Christmas and eat all the jellies off the top of the jelly-rings.

Next time the Ireland Is Full bigots are on the streets we'll see the Guards calmly escort them wherever they want to go.

I'm not technically in a high-risk group (which would make me eligible for a free jab)... though the fact I was hospitalised with flu back in 2017 and it almost killed me makes me think I should be! But I had to pay for it.

Cost me €30. The Covid one was free. Still a bargain all things considered.

Just back from getting my Covid and Flu vaccines.

Looks like I'll be 5G compatible for the winter months.

You're a better man than me. I'm already plotting my revenge.

Saw then about 3 years ago and they were amazing (you'll have a blast).

Looking at the Dublin gig and considering going again, but they really are VERY expensive. Decent tickets are twice the price of Patti Smith, which I'm finding hard to swallow.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Also the first album I ever bought. And it still ranks among my favourites.

(first single I ever bought was Ghostbusters, by Ray Parker Jr... so slightly less cred for that)

It's over 15 years since I lived in the UK but I never heard "could care less" when I did. And I've never heard it since returning to Ireland. Always "couldn't care less".

I did hear "could care less" when I lived in the States though.

But as milo says, maybe I'm not paying enough attention?

Even Michael Heseltine is sounding like a voice of reason these days. The distance the political mainstream has shifted rightwards for that to be the case can only be measured in astronomical units.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

I have an uncle who assures me the Jim Gavin scandal is the doing of Kerry GAA. Where's *his* Irish Times story? It's just as relevant as anything Maria Steen has to say.
jimbliss.bsky.social
I absolutely did. Best gig of the last few years.

As a multi-millionaire owner of numerous properties I don't see what the problem is with #budget2026. It looks great to me.

Hang on. I'm not a multi-millionaire owner of numerous properties, am I?

Fuck.

I take that back.

Something that's been going on for a while now. This is Einstein writing in 1949...

monthlyreview.org/articles/why...
Paragraph from Why Socialism? by Albert Einstein. It reads: "This crippling of individuals I consider the worst evil of capitalism. Our whole educational system suffers from this evil. An exaggerated competitive attitude is inculcated into the student, who is trained to worship acquisitive success as a preparation for his future career."
jimbliss.bsky.social
Actually, because you can see the top of the page despite the paywall I've just noticed it's only a "4-star" review. So no, I don't completely agree with it. If last night doesn't merit 5 stars, then nothing does.
jimbliss.bsky.social
It's no joke. And I suspect a large majority of the country would agree with it.
