It's more of a sick love story than a swoony romance. Fans of dark romance might appreciate the twisted relationship more if the gender roles were reversed, but I liked it the way it was, with a sinister woman in charge.

It has so many elements of what's currently popular in romance. Age gap! Cross-class! Very dark! Rich, unfeeling, much older hero becomes fixated on a young woman who completely undoes him.

This weekend's watch was Phantom Thread, a gorgeously made film with a captivating-dare I say-romance?

Rainy weather in San Diego. I've been in a quiet mood, nose to the grindstone on my current project. Not ready for spooky season yet but ready for fall.

In 1983 Philip Morris bought three Candlelight Romances from Dell to promote Belair cigarettes. These “Compliments of Belair” editions were promotional items for customers.

It's a special edition cover, but I think it fits. There's a cold case Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys vibe.

My daughter decided which colleges to apply to and finally chose a major. She was considering a career in prosthetics but the requirements are steep, like pre-med steep. She settled on Speech&Hearing Sciences. 💐

On top of that, daughter 2 is ready to transfer to a university, so it's college application time. So many exciting and joyous occasions. I will celebrate my usual way by feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

4am writers club was a bust this week. Family/life challenges abounded. My mom has been ill and needs some extra TLC. We're also going into "busy season" as I call it. Both of my kids birthdays + holidays.

The first OFFICIAL installment of #KissingBooks is back with a cozy fantasy, a monster romance, and one of my all-time favorite horror authors who has never let me down with the smooching. Also, an assortment of links!
Happy October! (With some appropriate, fall-themed kissing books recs to match)
It might not be cold for everyone, but these books are primed to get you in sweater-weather mode.

October is one of my favorite months for hiking. The heat of summer fades away and the sky is very blue.

I'm really happy with Texas 3 so far. I've had so much time developing this series. No deadlines. No rushing to finish or revise. Lots of fine-tuning. I think it shows in the final product.

I suppose I'll see One Battle After Another but I hated Licorice Pizza (director's last film) and Killers of the Flower Moon (Leo's last film). I don't trust either of those dudes.
