I can't recommend Prof. Omer Bartov's NYT opinion piece on the genocide in Gaza more highly. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/07/15/o...
"[W]hen those who have dedicated their careers to teaching & commemorating the Holocaust insist on ignoring or denying Israel’s genocidal actions in Gaza, they threaten to undermine everything that Holocaust scholarship & commemoration have stood for in the past several decades." -- Holocaust scholar Omer Bartov (NYT 15 July 2025)

Students in my prison study group are as devoted as my best university students. I can't overstate how much people in prison value books. An NEH-sponsored program to get prisoners reading & talking about books is now in trouble as T admin cuts agency funding. www.pressherald.com/2025/10/14/i...
In Maine State Prison, these book groups are led by incarcerated people

Mills's entry has already (!) stirred up the anti-establishment crowd, which has branded Mills an AIPAC candidate, when she's never taken AIPAC money & is pro-2 states. I'm an old leftie, but--for pete's sake--I know the target here is Collins, not (other) Dems.

Good lord. Is that a whale on wheels in landlocked Oklahoma?

Lovely photos & great advice!

Wonderful speech. So glad you posted it. I enjoyed reading it again!

Heck, I'll say it, too: your cranberry sauce is awesome!

Ha ha. Movies from the 90s. I only have a wall phone & it doesn't have caller ID, though I do admit to relying on the list of numbers taped inside the kitchen cabinet more & more as I creak into obscurity.

Good idea! Just added it to my library list. Thanks.

I agree. I hate to see the Senate race turn Maine voters against each other. We need to stay focused on the fact that we all share 1 goal: retiring Susan Collins.

For more than 12,000 years, Indigenous peoples have inhabited the vast and beautiful lands we call Maine.

On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we honor their enduring contributions, acknowledge the injustices they’ve faced, and recommit ourselves to a future rooted in respect, sovereignty, and truth. (1/4)

Both Mills & Platner endorse a 2-state solution. The race has barely started, so Mainers have time to push them both for specifics on the issue. Where a candidate stands on genocide is obviously a baseline issue. #MEpolitics

That's nuts! Now coming into Canada, we're asked if we have building supplies & weapons, and going into the US, we're asked if we have any fresh fruit & vegetables.

What's unusual are the number of Canadians denied entry for old & minor offenses, inc'g traffic violations. My NB neighbours are frightened to try to cross the border altho they used to shop/vacation in ME regularly. They're not paranoid. They've listened to the news. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

When Christopher Landry was making his annual trip to New Brunswick from New Hampshire, he didn't think he would run into any problems. But on his way home crossing the border to the U.S. in Houlton, ...

Good morning and Happy Sunday to everyone who correctly remembers that contrary to trump's post, Joe Biden was NOT the President on January 6, 2021 -- trump was.

His delusional episodes are increasing, it's time for the 25th Amendment.

HE IS UNFIT TO SERVE.

I voted for Sanders & Warren in POTUS primaries. I voted for Mills in the gubernatorial primary & there's no doubt she's the most qualified candidate. I'm iffy on Platner's experience, but wonder about Mills's electability & worry about her age. It's early days. Let's see how they do.

I'm a retired humanities prof & wonder how I'd handle the advent of AI. How are you handling it, particularly with homework writing assignments?

The Thoreau writing prompt is great. It's a treat to follow you & see what you're up to!

Mills would certainly be the most qualified candidate in the race, and she's already shown her willingness to take on T. But she may not be the most electable. And she's 77, which is a fact to consider, too.

(BTW, I can't believe she's 77!)
