In one way I WAS affected by altitude. Milk chai available at base camp ‘cafe’. So good I had 3 cups. Altitude affects boiling temp. Result? Food poisoning. 🤮‘Toilet’ was metres away over slippery ice. Made that trip many times in the night!! Had to unwrap myriad layers of clothes/bedding to do so.

Base camp on Tibet side is at 5200 m. 3 days jeep trip from Llasa. No trek involved!

Ramshackle base camp of Everest (Qomolangma). The mountain white against blue sky.

Lots of layers of warm clothing did not prevent the bitterly cold stinging wind. It was hard to stand virtually. Road to Base Camp.

The tip of Everest from road leading to base camp. Light snow swirling from the tip. Small hillock in foreground is festooned with prayer flags.

Local workers (who do the hard climbs and will be most affected by the blizzard) relaxing at base camp.
