Oh that reminds me when I went to Home Depot looking for bulbs of a specific hue (like soft white or whatever) and they showed me ones that you can just rotate and change the hue from like the yellow-y orange to bright white!!! My mind was blown

Now is this me saying it shouldn’t exist? God no. There should be a place for games with whatever amount/type of VA. We should have the choice to decide between whatever games we want. But I just think it’s worthwhile to examine how games are made and what impacts the overall design process.

So I feel like it’s not too hard to extrapolate these issues to other games and think that the larger use of voice acting absolutely impacts design decisions and maybe even limits what’s possible or forces certain choices to be made.

Then you look at the other issues like having the MC be voiced when they typically weren’t and I imagine that impacted the dialogue/decision trees which was a huge criticism of the game. They were pretty shallow and I have to imagine it’s due to needing to have multiple voices record those lines.

The biggest example that comes to mind is Fallout 4. In that game you could name your character and if it were one of 10,000 pre-recorded names or something characters would call you by name. And that just doesn’t seem worth it? Like all the time and resources spent for something like that, and why?

But then I start get to thinking about things like cost, time, even design decisions made around voice acting and I start to wonder what the overall impact is.

And obviously as someone who streams, it saves me a fuck load of time on reading! It’s nice to be able to just have a little break and let the game carry me forward. Though I will say at times I feel odd shutting the fuck up while the game talks, like I’m failing to do my job.
