THEY DO IT SO YOU WON’T NOTICE
Obama: "The weird videos of a US president with a crown on his head flying a fighter jet & dumping poop on American citizens - that's not even worth booing about. Because all of that is a distraction from the fact that your situation, your life has not gotten better. They do it so you won't notice"

An estimated 15.7 million workers use SNAP. It’s a lifeline for those in low-wage jobs.

Meanwhile, CEOs are paid 280x as much as the typical worker.

Don’t be angry at workers for using food stamps.

Be angry at the corporations paying them so little that they need them.

FWIW, this was in California. In the Bay Area.

You know, where book bans "don't happen" because it's a "good" "blue" state.

If you were celebrating Banned Books Week earlier this month, time to get on the phone and spread the word.
Joanna Ho and Caroline Kusin Pritchard, authors of THE DAY THE BOOKS DISAPPEARED, had their elementary school author visit canceled when they arrived and students were waiting for them.

Why? Because they wouldn't *not* talk about book bans–inspiration for their book.

Why Did These Authors Have Their School Visit Canceled? They Were Talking About Their Book About Book Bans.
Country Club Elementary School in California's Bay Area canceled an author visit moments before it began. Why? It covered book bans.

Absolutely ridiculous to deny students the chance of meeting authors and hearing about great books! I’m tired of hearing these stories. Everyone should get to read what they want, with a nod to age-appropriate material. Author visits should never be canceled after contracts are signed. I will write.
Thank you to the community who has rallied around to support!
Why did @joannahowrites.bsky.social and @carolinekpritchard.bsky.social have their author visit for their book THE DAY THE BOOKS DISAPPEARED (illus. by @dansantat.bsky.social) cancelled minutes before the school assembly was supposed to begin?

The government doesn’t care about the people/the citizens who gave them their jobs. VOTE them ALL out! This is a bipartisan failure. Humanity needs strong leaders.

SNAP, the country's largest anti-hunger program, dates back to the Great Depression and has never been disrupted this way. Most recipients are seniors, families with kids, and those with disabilities.

John Roberts and his miserable excuse for a high court of justice are presiding over a great disassembling of the United States and the rare American experiment in government by its people. It began with Citizens United and it continues relentlessly. This is a second civil war in slow motion.

Congress basically doesn’t exist at this point
Students were in love with @erinentrada during #AuthorStudy, hosted by @kwamealexander and @onewordorg! Writing tips, laughter, and a peek at THE LAST RESORT, a book you can read AND scan pages to talk to ghosts! Amazing event! #AuthorStudy #MiddleSchool #ReadingTeacherWrites #OneWordCommunity
Thank you for writing this down and sharing it with us.
It was nice to see Josh Funk and Niki Barnes (Nerdy Book Club) to celebrate Josh’s new book, WHO DONUT? A HOLIDAY MYSTERY! Thanks to This Is a Bookstore/Bookbug for hosting the event! Special shout out to Kelly Vorhis, the best travel buddy ever! #NewBooks #AuthorFriendsRock #ReadingTeacherWrites
So…we don’t want kings. But I don’t want representatives, senators, and Supreme Court justices who ignore the people and the Constitution, either. This bipartisan bickering must end. What can we do? We can VOTE. We can boycott. We can refuse to back down. #NoKings #WeThePeople #TheConstitution
