I think so. It is scary though, how one person can have such a hold over another, only to lose it completely.

I am such a believer in handwritten drafts! Although it’s a relief to finally start typing in. A sign we might one day actually send the MS out?!

There are times when it’s only swapping words, distilling in one place, slightly expanding in another. You’re in there with the clay! Even if the tweaks are subtle, they all help. 💜

Simultaneously very happy and crestfallen to be part of this Open Letter (written to the industry, as well as readers, writers, and - well - everyone who cares).

The opportunity to make and revisit sentences, to build paragraphs, this practice is how the pen’s power grows until one day it will be strong enough to outpace the sword.

Good wishes for the writing 💜

And we have to let them.

Only once, my grandmother’s dark eyes stayed a while on my own. She didn’t have much time left. She wanted to give me money. It said more in her world than words. To make, save, give it, spelled love.
