That is why we take time to reflect, to honor those who came before us, and to ensure their stories are never forgotten.

Undersheriff Clarence Fugate may be gone, but his name, his courage, and his legacy live on.
jeffcosheriffco.bsky.social
He was the first member of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to give his life in the line of duty, and his legacy continues to guide those who wear the uniform today.

Every deputy understands that this profession carries great risk. Protecting others may one day require the greatest sacrifice.

Eighty-five years have passed since that night, but the courage, service, and sacrifice of Undersheriff Fugate remain deeply woven into the fabric of this agency.

As Fugate returned, he was ambushed by gunfire. Deputies immediately returned fire, wounding the suspect, who was later sentenced to life in prison without parole.

On the night of October 12, 1940, Undersheriff Fugate responded to Lee’s Tavern in Arvada to arrest a bartender who had shot a man earlier that day. When Fugate arrived, the suspect tried to mislead him into searching the kitchen for the weapon. .

Today, we pause to remember Jefferson County Undersheriff Clarence Fugate and the ultimate sacrifice he made in service to our community.

At 8:00 a.m., Sheriff Reggie Marinelli delivered a powerful radio tribute honoring Undersheriff Fugate’s life and legacy.

Beautiful weather. Open roads. Just the right amount of law and order this National Motorcycle Ride Day.

Our Traffic Unit recently wrapped up monthly motorcycle training and is back on the road, enforcing traffic laws, protecting our community, and hoping the Colorado sunshine sticks around.

Since January, our Traffic Unit has served 861 summonses along the mountain corridor of US Hwy 285. Most of these stops were for 20+ over the speed limit.
jeffcosheriffco.bsky.social
Hwy 285 is already busy. Reckless speed makes it dangerous.

This Friday, the JCSO Traffic Unit will conduct a speed saturation patrol to make the road safer for everyone.

Tickets are real. Crashes are preventable. Drive smart.

It’s what we do.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office motorcycle is parked on the shoulder of a highway next to a white SUV that has been stopped. The scene is in a mountainous area under a blue sky. Large yellow text in the center reads “SPEED Saturation.” In the bottom right corner, white text says “Highway 285 Friday, September 26.” The Sheriff’s Office logo appears in the top right corner. A body camera timestamp is visible across the top.

Sheriff Reggie Marinelli, and DA Alexis King, joined the Commissioners in reaffirming our shared commitment to ending domestic violence and supporting survivors.

It’s a call to raise our voices, advocate for victims, and educate ourselves about the impact of domestic violence.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This month, and always, we stand with survivors and against domestic violence.

Today, the Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
A large group of people stands together inside a courtroom-style meeting room for a group photo. Many are wearing purple to show support for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In the front row, several people hold a framed proclamation recognizing the month. At the bottom right corner, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office logo is displayed. Deputy McCutchon didn’t just patrol the Fall Festival - he inspired some art!

Daniel, a local artist, stopped to sketch the deputy’s patrol car at the event at Waterstone Church in Littleton. The result? A masterpiece - and a great reminder that community connection takes many creative forms.
A young man kneels in a parking lot sketching on a clipboard while talking with an older man in a blue jacket. In the background, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s patrol car and deputies are visible near other festivalgoers. The young artist stands next to Deputy McCutchon in uniform, holding his drawing of the patrol car. They are smiling in front of the same sheriff’s vehicle under a sunny blue sky. Close-up of the artist and Deputy McCutchon standing together. The artist holds his detailed sketch of the patrol car, and both are smiling proudly in front of the real vehicle.
