And I'm having a very cranky day, the news is generally terrible, and I'm too tired to do anything about it, so today is a day to improve personal morale, and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is vastly improving to personal morale.

My least favorite great-uncle's father was a Rear Admiral in the Coast Guard. He retired to Argentina and was killed in a hit and run. His son was a white supremacist, one of the early manifestations of the current party.

So, you see, I genetically hate Nazis. A lot. For multiple reasons.

My great-great uncle was a medic on a ship in Pearl Harbor. He survived because he was in sick bay that day, his ship didn't. Two others were at Iwo Jima as medics (due to the Seventh Day Adventist religious rules that forbade them to commit violence, all my relatives in that era were medics).

Is it super dramatized and inaccurate? Yes? Does watching gorgeous people wittily doing terrible things to Nazis cheer me up immensely? Yes. Therefore, I am watching The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Again.

(In case you wondered where I stood on the issue of that particular scum...)

Honestly, I have so many at this point...

Update: drove back by as some scent dogs were being unloaded by handlers in civilian clothes. Might be a missing persons issue. Just...weird location and a lot of unmarked vans and out of uniform guys.

Whatever works in Rise in Glorious Raiment is down to @jaymgates.bsky.social as excellent series editor and friend of the show, who is amazing and whose own work (as an editor/anthologist, as a writer, in all capacities) you should seek out. And whatever doesn't work here is on me. :)

This South Side Weekly report on the Chicago building raid is well worth reading. Most striking to me are the indications of collusion between federal authorities and the building owner and management to effect a mass eviction at the blighted property. southsideweekly.com/federal-agen...

I've been told to use an infrared machine for additional injury recovery (old shoulder injury) which was all well and good until I turned out the lights to relax and now there's a demonic glow emanating from my room.

I do TRY to keep that hidden...

Three big black dogs who need to be underfoot but are also ninjas and a tendency to keep the house dark has done wonders for my balance, reaction time, and reflexes.

I spent all afternoon doing yard work and have that lovely "I've done enough on the to-do list to just relax the rest of the evening" feeling.

I gave him cookies and told him you said hello! He sneezed on me.

I also had two of the neighbor kids running beside my truck as I drove down the barn road, grinning at me as they raced along. So today's trip was delightful.

Second time this week I've gone to the barn and happened to pull up just as one of the huge local coyotes - a different one this time - loped across the mare field and into the bushes at the side of the road. They've also been yelling quite a bit lately. One of my favorite parts of living here.

I went out of my way yesterday to put the horses in so they'd be dry for tonight's vet visit.

It's beautifully clear outside this morning.

Oh well. If I hadn't put them in, it would be pouring this morning.

I'll give him a couple this afternoon! He has a massage appointment, so I'm sure there'll be something entertaining

He's good! Sassy, fat, and spicy.

I stopped by the barn today just in time to see one of the big local coyotes lope across the pastures, right by the mares, and across the road. It paused before diving into the blackberries to stare at me before vanishing.

The mares didn't even look up.

A very appreciated moment in a rough month.

Random internet trolls should not be able to get away with ruining a good person’s life simply because she (fully legally!) posted a joke about them on the internet. If you have anything to spare to help my friend fight back against this monster please donate.

Thank you! The team seems amazing, but sessions are going to be 2-3 hours, so I expect to be exhausted for a while.

Also, this injury happened when I was 13. I learned to use a broken body extremely efficiently because I didn't think it could be fixed. The idea of being even partly...normal?...physically is fascinating and exciting.

The amount of energy I had in my 20s and early 30s before that round of injuries, stress, and illnesses that kicked this level of pain off...

I'm kind of excited, but also it turns out sleep and relaxation are nice, you know? Balance is going to be a thing I need to learn.
