NEWS: The D.C. Council just passed an emergency bill allowing anyone to get a COVID-19 vaccine without a doctor's prescription, which have been requested recently due to changes in federal vaccine recommendations. (And some D.C. residents have had to go to Maryland or Virginia.)

I think, every so often, about how the student protesters in South Korea figured out there was a finite supply of tear gas, and then staged retreating marches that caused police to burn off most of it, before the big "bring your auntie and kids" marches that ultimately toppled the dictatorship.

korean reporting is nightmarish on the conditions Korean workers were contained in

Their waists and hands were tied together, forcing them to bend down and lick water to drink. The unscreened bathrooms contained only a single sheet to cover their lower bodies. Sunlight barely penetrated through a fist-sized hole, and they were only allowed access to the small yard for two hours. Detained by US immigration authorities for eight days, the workers and their families expressed shock, describing human rights violations and absurdities they could not have imagined as ordinary Koreans living in 2025.

A four panel comic about an upcoming event called Drawn Together: A comic artist' roundtable. We are introduced to two comic creators sitting at a stage, Kelly and Ariel. An audience member asks, "what's it like making comics for print?" Kelly and Ariel exchange a concerned glance. They are both reflecting on the extreme highs and lows they experience while making comics, as expressed by the flashes of indistinct figures in the background. Some figures complain about sore wrists and backs, others state that "Michelangelo wishes he had my talents". There are figures refusing to do work, underestimating their workload, grinding their teeth in envy while admiring other creators' comics, and giving into despair. Kelly turns back to the audience, "do you have an hour?" she asks. Ariel also warns the audience to "write this down." The final panel shows Kelly and Ariel cheerfully gesturing to the event title, and showcasing the date for the event, September 16.

Some time in 2015 when he was in the midst of the injury that should have ended everything, skin repeatedly splitting open and infection seeping out, the operations endless and the days when he was ready to ditch it all countless, a part of his arm grafted on to his heel, a new tendon made with rolled-up hamstring, Cazorla was told to settle for being able to walk around his garden – and now he was. Thirty-thousand people were there to see it, all of them standing and applauding, some crying, most singing, as he went on to face Villarreal, where he played his first ever professional game, 22 years ago. Where he had played 333 more of them and where, he said, they had treated him “like their son”.

He had needed them to. Cazorla arrived at Villarreal as an 18-year-old in 2003, forced to leave home when Oviedo collapsed, relegated, dropping two tiers in one go, in debt, abandoned and on the verge of disappearing for ever. Just as the chance to make his debut might have come, a decade after he had arrived, it was taken away again. Villarreal came for him then, a shy, timid boy at the time. When Arsenal released him in 2018, assuming it was all over, they were there for him again, giving him place to train, to try to recover. Which, a stubborn so-and-so behind the smile, he did. He played 86 games and got another Spain call at 34.

There was just one thing left to do; the one thing he had always wanted to. So, having accepted the pain, ignored the advice to leave it, he returned to Oviedo on a mission: get them back to primera for the first time since 2001. It took two years, it took him scoring in the playoff semi-final and final too, but they made it. Where they returned gave it something extra: back among friends, at Cazorla’s other home, something healing about watching him heading on with 10 minutes left of a game that was already lost but for his club against one he helped make great. “This was very special,” Cazorla said.

The sheer amount of love in that one stadium because he's a beloved son of both Real Oviedo and Villarreal. 😭 I LOVE SPORTS. I wish I could see him play at Oviedo, but I'm not traveling because of the pandemic and I get bitter thinking about all the football experiences I missed/am missing out on

Every time Sid Lowe writes about Santi, I'm 😭❤️ and I was especially like that after reading this article a few days ago. I love the story about Santi's return to Oviedo and what he's doing for the club, and their promotion and this first match are like a fairytale. What a way to return to La Liga

Haha that's funny that your parents know that now! Santi is universally adored and he deserves all the roses he's getting. Such a magician on the pitch and more importantly a fantastic person. Considering his story and what he's done with Oviedo, no wonder everyone loves him! 😄💙 I'm happy for him

I was stunned by the art of Lucas & Miguel on a nighttime walk (the coloring is MAGICAL) & Miguel's goofy, excited face while he's holding up his adorable ouija board instantly charmed me & made me want to check out FMP!

Also, I can't believe I talked about Santi Cazorla in a publishing conversation, but Deli is from Oviedo so even though she isn't a football fan, I had to bring him up. One of my all-time faves and I'm still mad I forgot to watch the match that promoted Oviedo to La Liga for the first time in 24 yrs
