Hi #PortfolioDay

I'm James. I love making fun games. I love writing new stories. I love working with cool people.

I’m currently a narrative director at Ubisoft.

I’m also a freelance comics writer, looking for new opportunities in both franchise and creator-owned spaces.

On this day in 2024, I finished The Outer Worlds on PS4. I am historically not a fan of the Fallout/Elder Scrolls type of RPG but I really enjoyed this one! I think having Mass Effect style companions helped me invest a little more in what was going on.

Okay, my Year of Final Fantasy kind of stalled out over the summer holiday and the kid's back to school stuff, but we're so back because I (finally) finished Final Fantasy V over the long weekend!

So in this book, Tony Stark is paralyzed and builds himself a fancy hi-tech floating chair. My question for the Marvel nerds out there is: Is this the same type of chair that Professor X uses?
Iron Man's fancy chair Professor X's fancy chair!

My comic writing is fun because I get to write smaller scale, more personal and character driven stuff. I'm also having fun using my writing to explore life as part of the Japanese diaspora. I'd love to write a comic for you!
I wrote a story in Let Her Be Evil

Illustrated by Chris Anderson
 Coloured by Illuminated
 Lettered by Jeff Eckleberry
Edited by Cassandra Jones I wrote a story in the Wish Upon a Star anthology, illustrated by Megan Huang!

I wrote stuff for these games! Whether it's cinematics, missions, audio files, database stuff, I love making open worlds feel alive. It's a treat working for these big franchises that I love. Can't wait to share what's next.
I wrote some open world stuff for Batman: Arkham Origins! I wrote the modern day questline & collectibles, the war letter collectibles, and a smattering of Animus Database & open world dialog on Assassin's Creed Rogue! I wrote the modern day storyline & collectibles, I added the Juno / First Civ bits to the WWI simulation, I helped with the London Stories, and a bunch of other stuff on Assassin's Creed Syndicate! For Far Cry 5 I oversaw the way the story was disseminated through 2/3 of the open world, including intel and dialogues, I wrote a lot of the treasure hunts and a few quests, and oversaw a lot of the item descriptions and menu stuff. Also CLUTCH NIXON

For Far Cry New Dawn I oversaw all of that plus the main path narrative.

Fuck this. The worst game you ever played was still made by people who spent years trying their best. Not saying you can't hate things but honestly, why put this energy out into the world right now?

What's the worst game you finished/rolled credits on?

(games media folks, it can't be something you were assigned to review; this has to be something you subjected yourself to of your own free will)

Yeah it's been fun to dust off my PS3 every once in a while but I still think preservation and availability is a real problem

On this day in 2024, I finished God of War II HD on PS3. It was part of my series playthrough and I had a good goddamn time. I think it's a shame that so many PS3 games are inaccessible on modern consoles or PC.

I did this, took like 30 min.
Points I kept hammering: domestic cloud, regulations around copyright and likeness rights, focusing on machine learning with concrete, real world uses (creating new drugs, etc), the damage done by slop, the need to listen to AI experts who are realists, not boosters.

I read IRON MAN EPIC COLLECTION: WAR MACHINE. Interesting to see that they repeated the story bits of replacing Stark with Rhodes 10 years later. For me burning through Epics it felt quick, like "again?" but I wonder if it felt new or refreshed if you were reading it monthly in real time.
