Though I must give proper attribution for the middle picture, taken at @themilestoneclub.bsky.social by the very talented Xaqfixx of Charlotte, NC.

Hi #portfolioday I do dark jazz with video backdrop and associated photography and art. Like as if Dave Brubeck started listening to the Cure. #darkjazz

Stuff to listen to in the rain and the dark. jackphantom.com/streaming-links

The insidious practice of hiding the full cost of “insurance” so people don’t question why we are prioritizing shareholder profits over sick people going bankrupt

He's the perfect Democrat candidate. Ticks the virtue signalling boxes, has a great resume on paper, but as you said - pick off the icing, there's no cake underneath, just a balloon.

But hey, him dropping for do-nothing Biden in 2020, it's "his turn" now, right? That was the deal.

Because they can't be blamed if the decision was the wrong one.

Because they can't be fired if an "empowered" underling does something that isn't in the best official financial interest of the company.

This one does, and I'm trying to get others to as well.

That's how we ended up here.

Missouri comedian. Was married to Lewis Black for a while and IIRC they parted amicably. She has a bit where her mom randomly hands her a pill out of a bottle of just random salad assortments of whatever they had left in their medicine cabinet. It's a hoot.

She's really talented, check her out.

I actually find a lot of classics quite sobering.

Antigone is a treatise on power.

The Satyricon, even though it was basically a Benny Hill style parody of The Odyssey, had a brutal satiric takedown of end-of-empire decadence as an opening monologue.

Didn't Kathleen Madigan have a bit about that sort of thing?

I'm old enough now to have seen textbooks recounting activities I was alive to have seen the first time around.

Eye opening.

I'll wait to see what his policies will be.

You know, policies? Those things politicians committed to before running campaigns based on sunglasses, ice cream, empty slogans, cults of personality and so forth?

The thing is, this can be a teaching moment. The number of parents who simply say "no" and then "because I said so" rather than "listen, this game turns a real-world crime into entertainment.", man. Never understood it.

So what you're saying Sam is you're worth more than a country's GDP over "not real work".

Which is weird because I'm okay with Mortal Kombat, but still.

Chasing teenagers to stab them and being rewarded for same is disqueting to me.

I get the whole "but that's what the movie was about" thing, but I mean, that's the villain?

Believe it or not the only reason I play horror games is I have nothing against gibbing a zombie, demon or other non-human creature (that isn't a real creature) but killing humans, even by proxy...

There's a Hallowe'en game coming out soon. Was excited, then found out the goal of it was to go around stabbing young women to death.

No thanks.

Ever.

I'd have to admit that some of them were kinda skipworthy, but that particular one in Beyond starts slow and really cooks at the end.
jackphantom.bsky.social
"Stowaway" was another gem. The ending was brutal.
jackphantom.bsky.social
Oh yeah, far too many of them seem really contrived, but some of them are truly incredible. "Safe Haven" is another classic.

One thing I like about the found footage horror genre is that meaningful things happening aren't zoomed in on with dramatic music, they just happen.

Also, V/H/S gave us the fantastic Amateur Night.

Honestly, I want two characters like these in a buddy cop movie, and I want to be the one on the left. And just go everywhere in a KISS'd up Gran Torino.
