This is BAD. Many countries assisted with building the containment over reactor 4. Because Chernobyl is an existential threat. Canada donated over 66 million dollars. Building this was an example of extreme engineering. That a drone could do this to any nuclear facility has been a concern.

The hole in the roof of the protective 'New Safe Confinement' containment shell over destroyed Reactor 4 of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine after a Russian drone targeted it last night. #MSC2025

Well I live in 🇨🇦 … but basically the same. The traffic stress is globalized.

Alberta high school students organizing a free tutoring service for other high school students is peak activism. Please share far and wide. Many students can benefit from this. And think of the solidarity, community building, and friendship creating opportunities.

Oh my goodness!! Alberta High School IB students have organized a free tutoring service for the core subjects 🥹✊

The solidarity they have with each other and with their teachers is beyond anything I could have imagined.

Check out their Instagram page or website. Support them if you can!

Ask not how many cars you can power with solar power instead of biofuels, but how e-buses, trains, and e-bikes can move people affordably in a clean grid.

the stress caused by the traffic experience is really unbelievable

some people experience what you did every day

... i once left for a job very early every morning, at least an hour before I needed to, to make it a 15 minutes drive instead of 45 minutes. So my workday was essentially longer

i'm sorry for yours too ...

i got some good legal advice along the way from two lawyer friends and then from hiring a lawyer when the job was "done" ... i sure learned a lot if i ever reno anything again or hire a contractor for any job. The best advice is document everything (in writing & photos)

It's a question to ask! Thank you.

I'm adding it to my list. I haven't lived in an apartment for awhile but many in my life... i have a BIG list of absolutely NOTs... a list of things i would compromise on ... a short list of wants/needs.

like yours, they'd disappear for months at a time (with my money), not answer emails, not return calls. I only have one bathroom plus a disgusting toilet & sink in my spider infested furnace room. That's what i used for SEVEN months. It took them 1.5 yrs to do a 6 weeks reno.

Definitely. I didn't need roofing work but there was a thin layer of woodchips in my attic which I topped up to R60.
They also ruined a the beautiful new bathtub by not protecting it while tiling. It went on and on. I thought I'd done my due diligence in choosing them to do the work but 🤷‍♀️

I teach a university course about stress.
Last week we did a group activity where groups brainstormed lists of stressors under different categories. Under "external" stressors (ie. not in our control) EVERY single group listed traffic ...

NEW: “Toderian says it’s easy to be distracted by futuristic innovations like electric cars, drone delivery networks & hyperloops. ‘The real solutions are a lot less sexy and a lot more common sense… Tech won’t save us if we get the fundamentals wrong.”

I was 1 of 3 urban experts asked to weigh in.
A world without traffic? Three urban experts rethink how cities move
Gridlock is costing us billions, but bold solutions like bus-only lanes, congestion charges and flexible work hours could get cities moving again

what? ... is the humidity setting off the alarms??
I'm looking for an apartment. Is that a thing I should add to my "watch out for" list??
jackieseidel.bsky.social
oooof.
I dealt with this for over a year with a bathroom reno. It was a complete nightmare. After they "finished", i found out that they hadn't actually finished. Like the roof insulation guys were like "um, your bathroom fan is venting into the attic". I did do something about it.

Anecdotally, my girlfriend added a couple options for students to do midterm projects that might be more personally appealing to students in addition to the standard essay, in an attempt to dissuade them from using LLMs, and the students have embraced it with gusto

At least in the sport wagon he could probably also curl up and sleep in the back. My buyer's parent and I were joking about how he could sleep in the back ... he also wondered if his skis would fit. I was like "of course! my x-country skis are longer than your downhill & fit easily"

The politics of cruelty operates by creating existential fear in individuals and by dividing people from one another. The only way to face it is to create solidarity within and across groups, including across diverse groups that haven't conventionally interacted or even liked one another.

More Americans are biting their tongues, not because they don’t care, but because they’re afraid to speak.

From DEI to the war in Gaza, people are more afraid to speak their minds now than during the Red Scare, according to a political scientist who has been conducting surveys.
