Even after I quit, my husband didn’t until a month ago when he had Covid which led to pneumonia sending him to the ER and his second day in the ER while he waited in line with 20 others for a bed he got Covid AGAIN. Needless to say he quit by force and he’s not complaining. He’s still there. 😢

Tobacco companies always found ways to relate smoking with sex appeal, being tough or rugged in advertising and the media. It’s as American as guns. 😒

Quitting for 20 seconds I mean. Do easy in the end having failed so many times.

Marshall, MO.

I head into rural Republican districts across the state and country and I organize the Democrats in those red spaces. I am a cheerleader for these Democrats. I remind them that they are not alone, and they are a force for change.

I will never stop.

I quit in '85, after 10 years.

A minor health scare broke through the conditioning and made me realize that I'd become a slave to a very damaging habit. Many of my friends refused to stop smoking around me, so I stopped seeing them and made new friends who didn't smoke.

Best decision ever!

Excellent! My husband's anniversary for 3 years not smoking was yesterday! Definitely celebrate these milestones! He gave up drinking in 1984, so now he says the only pleasure he has in life is food, and he is a diabetic, LOL. Poor man!

Yes. I learned this in my college course on the psychology of addiction.

The rate at which the nicotine takes effect and the time it takes for the effect to wane make it really difficult to quit.

On this day in 1945, Desmond Doss became the only conscientious objector to receive the U.S. Medal of Honor. He was a member of a combat unit, but, because of his religious beliefs, he refused to carry a rifle.

On the Japanese islands of Okinawa – amid desperate fighting – Doss saved more than 50 U.S. soldiers – even though his arm was shattered by sniper fire and he was badly wounded by shrapnel from a grenade he kicked away from the soldiers he rescued. Congratulations. I was a 3 pack a day smoker when I quit more than 45 years ago. After a couple of years I even stopped dreaming about smoking. You can do it.
