Agreed that they aren't backed, but he's never said he'd push a pipeline through without First Nations and BC support.

It seems to me that the only pipeline Smith might get is a renewed Keystone project. But the pipeline companies won't back it, so....
Depends what "situation" is the most urgent as a nation. There are many internal injustices, but none of it will matter if there's no country left.
He's not caving to P. He's fulfilling an election promise. Having a squeaky clean image and being known for doing what you say you will is the rarest breed of politician.
I think the fact that they picked Calgary for the location tells you what you need to know about who they hope shows up outside.
If you can't out-Carney a Carney, then they try to out-Trump a Trump.
All populists need wedge issues.
Are they wanting to bring their dieselgate models? I hear they have some left over. 😃

(There's no way this joke is too soon. It's been a decade)
I'm not sure what the optics are from (I'm assuming) the US, but P is not widely supported. He had some momentum pre-Carney because people were frustrated post covid but that momentum is gone. He's talking the way he is because he thinks that'll help him in his leadership review in a few weeks.
No one here is trying to appease Trump. Right now it's about pretending to be his friend while getting ourselves aligned with the rest of the world. It takes time. There's also strategy leading into CUSMA negotiations next year.

Trump is seen as a pariah here by all except our mentally ill.
Which nation building projects would potentially be rejected by these groups?

And how would you suggest a government approach a group that doesn't have a unified voice?
Yeah but these are ongoing issues. None of these conditions was initiated by Carney. I get it, the legislation looks like they COULD do things - but they haven't. And that's my point from before.
It doesn't have to carry any water - you really don't have a choice. It's the way government works. You elect them on a platform and then have to trust they'll follow that.

What actual actions (not the potential actions because of legislation) has he taken against First Nations to date?
I think on the First Nations file it's a wait and see. We are conditioned in Canada to see people screwing the First Nations so we just expect it to happen again. Right now Carney hasn't done that (people have just put words in his mouth and created intention where he's made none)
Hey, wait a minute. Smith is a populist.

Yup, that tracks. Billions lost due to populist base having ignorant and uninformed opinions.
Carney said he'd hire border guards during the election cycle.

Don't go into politics. Subtlety seems to be lost on you.
This is only about fulfilling election promises. It's about taking away Poilievre's whiny thunder.

How much would you pay to have Poilievre just "go away"?
Does listening mean acting?

I get it, you want to create a narrative around what leadership is so you can get what you want. Sometimes leadership is hard. Sometimes it just means doing the best you can for as many people as possible.
"we broke the rules, but breaking rules isn't wrong - so we did no wrong"

UCP logic.
I'm pretty sure I've seen this movie.

It doesn't end well.
Is Mark McGuire 65 years old already?
The plan looks to utilize the lot with 60s/70s homes like the picture shows. The houses they are meant to partner with are smaller and abundant in many communities.
Costing this out, even if the ATA proposal was accepted without change, it still only puts Alberta middle of the pack on per student funding. Once the other provinces sign future agreements, we'll be at the bottom again.
2B /4 years /750,000students = $667 per student

Horner isn't even willing to discuss $667 dollars more per student.
The "quick end" will likely be the legislation that ends teachers' constitutional right to strike, followed by endless work-to-rule.

Time for teachers to refuse to mark diploma exams en masse.

Forever.
I don't recall ever reading about headlines like "Hitler's policies are hurting innocent Germans" after WW2
