In Rome, there’s an Understanding, and what it really boils down to is that one’s hereditary enemy can’t do their job if they’ve got one’s fingers up their cunt.

This led to the next tenet of the Understanding, which was that if one happened to be at the Baths already and one’s hereditary enemy entered, there was no need to leave. After all, you’re just keeping your enemy close. They can’t be performing any wiles if they’re within your sight.

And in fact, the Understanding continued, the closer they are, the more aware you are of them and the easier a brisk intervention would be. After all, important things happened in the Baths, plenty of opportunities for undue influence for one side or the other. So if your hereditary enemy was seen, you should go sit next to them. And in case they’re doing something silly that you can’t see, you should press together side by side, so that you could feel any shenanigans.

And pleasure was an excellent way to distract an enemy, so if your hand just so happened to slip between her legs and up into her cunt, well that was just the natural progression of things, wasn’t it?

Aziraphale was just doing her job.
