1/ Does growing up poor always lead to political apathy?

Very happy to share my first paper published (open access) in @electoralstudies.bsky.social, where I show that parents' influence mitigates the poverty gap in participation, while economic mobility does not.

Why are cities and rural areas drifting apart politically? 🌄🌆

@indubioproreto.bsky.social & @lhaffert.bsky.social conducted a long-term Swiss study to find the biggest divide is amongst younger generations who hold very different views depending on where they grew up 👶 🔎

Exit polls show: Only 21% of the Swiss voters said yes today to a new inheritance tax.

Not only is this the lowest approval rate for a left-wing initiative in decades, but also much less than the left-wing vote share in national elections.
In 10 days, Swiss citizens will vote on the introduction of a inheritance tax on inherited wealth above 50 million CHF.

All current polls show that the proposal will likely be rejected by a large majority, showing that inheritance taxes are probably the least popular social policy in Switzerland.
