My great great grandmother got married at 14 and my gg grandfather was in his late 20s or early 30s... he found her orphaned. It's in most of our families and it's up to us not not allow it to continue!
My grandparents’ age gap, once I found out at a mature age, is what fueled my Black feminism even more with a child liberation element. It was a different country/culture, but no girl should get married off to have 10 kids before 40 because she was orphaned. Wtf happened to her proverbial village?

we gotta admit that the majority of the Black community, unless they’ve done active work to unlearn it, are patriarchal to the point of that being one of our biggest blind spots. that impulse to defend men in particular at all costs at the expense of women and children is quite literally

Sitting in this yearly high school basketball tournament. The sexism is so damn obvious. You don’t even have to wait until college and the league to see it.

They are engaged in some of the most unimaginable self-debasement, up to buying into the idea that they will be spared for being derelict beings who can use power for whatever means they choose (& they are often right!!!)
