So Trump is trying to deescalate. Which is his typical MO. Some will call it TACO, but in the case of implementing full blown fascism, that's actually a good thing. Even in his dementia-ridden state he has a feel for social reactions.

When Vance takes over, on the other hand...

I mean - obviously the guy is the governor of VERMONT so he's an outlier, but it's good to see *finally* some high-ranking Republican politicians taking a stance against this murder spree.
January 25, 2026 at 9:13 PM
So Trump is -20 in an approval poll.

By Rasmussen.

Taken, I assume, before the latest murder.
January 25, 2026 at 6:28 PM
I think Fetterman is now the only DINO who has not yet pledged to veto the DHS funding bill. Unless they force a filibuster removal over this, I don't really see it passing.
January 25, 2026 at 5:17 PM
It seems that MAGA is underestimating a vital feature of civil society - one that works even under authoritarian regimes.

It's not just about the people who support you. It's also about the ones who are indifferent.

MAGA propaganda did a great job tuning people out before the Trump - Harris...
January 25, 2026 at 5:05 PM
I seriously think that MAGA doing a 180 on the Second Amendment will be a breaking point for a lot of otherwise conservative people.

There aren't many points in US discourse which are more associated with Republican identity than 2A rights.
January 25, 2026 at 4:11 PM
So after doing three monkeys for the entire day yesterday, there's been some mild criticism of the government in GOP circles. For now, it's the outsiders (MTG, Massie, Tillis). But there's also a leaked recording of Cruz distancing himself from Trump.

I think we'll hear more in the coming days.
January 25, 2026 at 4:02 PM
So now we see all the MAGA types doing a complete 180 on the Second Amendment, going with "if you carry a gun you deserve to be shot by law enforcement". This should surprise nobody, frankly. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the alt-right cult is *not* conservative at all.
January 24, 2026 at 11:18 PM
Of course the worldwide right-wing grifters rush in to defend ICE, but this guy is probably the dumbest of them all.

Mate, if the British police conducted themselves the way ICE that you're cheering on is conducting themselves now, you'd be dead 5 times over.
January 24, 2026 at 10:41 PM
Okay, stupid question: did *any* Republican congressperson or senator actually denounce the killing of Alex Pretti? A *single one*?
January 24, 2026 at 9:52 PM
Add "Second Amendment" to the list, apparently.
Yet another reminder that "religious freedom" is, exactly like "freedom of speech", complete bullshit in the USA. "Religious freedom" means powerful churches can disregard labor protections when they want to fire a gay person - but they do nothing to protect the actual freedom of religion.

What is happening in Minnesota right now is a breaking point for emerging fascism. This second murder is way more blatant than the first. If the perpetrators get away with it, then the entire ICE knows they can murder people at will - and they will start doing so. This is *the* breaking point.
January 24, 2026 at 6:46 PM
I wish this post hadn't aged as well as it did 😐
I don't want to be a doomer - it isn't that there are literally *roving death squads*. But it's certainly possible that some particularly degenerate ICE agents *will* actively plot to kill an activist who's been "consistently annoying" (see the Chicago case: edition.cnn.com/2025/11/21/u...)
Text messages and a moved SUV: How the government’s case against a Chicago woman shot by a Border Patrol agent fell apart | CNN
A wide grin was plastered on Marimar Martinez’s face Thursday as she thanked her attorneys outside an Illinois courtroom and told reporters, “I’m just blessed. I’m happy.”

When any right winger unironically posts some bullshit about "freedom of speech", just paste them this article.

No, but he did sit down at his computer and churn out this little gem. The real problem is that people are encouraging others to film ICE.
January 22, 2026 at 8:58 PM
Here's the thing - that's exactly what they did. Because the pastor, serving as ICE director, acts in the name of the cult of MAGA and the people killed, maimed, displaced and traumatized by ICE are exactly that - human sacrifices to appease the false god.
January 22, 2026 at 2:33 PM
How fucking demoralized you have to be to detain a FIVE YEAR OLD and move him to a detention center instead of contacting his parents?
January 21, 2026 at 11:31 PM
I've said it before and I'll repeat it ad nauseam - neoliberal politics have trained liberal politicians who are *pathologically* risk-averse. It's normal for some people to be more risk-averse - but this is both a selection factor for liberal parties and extreme in its effect size.
January 21, 2026 at 11:14 PM
Barron is so disgusting.

For months now, ICE have been grabbing people everywhere - yes, including churches. But when people go protest in a "church" whose pastor is, incidentally, also the acting ICE director, he suddenly is so horribly outraged and active on social media.

Disgusting hypocrite.

January 19, 2026 at 11:28 AM
I want everyone to understand how insane this is.

The president of the USA tells the Norwegian government he's going to take Greenland (owned by Denmark) because he didn't get the Nobel Peace Prize (which is not given by the government, but a parliamentary committee).

Also, just to illustrate to people in the US what the feelings here in Europe now are, one common sentiment I hear is "I hope they start a civil war faster than they have the time to instigate anything else in Europe". Your government is basically being considered Putin on steroids.
January 14, 2026 at 9:48 PM
Okay, daily pessimistic POV:
- NATO is already gone. The European part might be salvageable if we get our act together. The damage dealt with the Greenland case has already destroyed all trust.
- USA is currently Europe's greatest enemy, together with Russia. They are doing everything to destroy us.
