To all who come to this happy journal: welcome!

A preorder link is live! 😊 If you would like the book and can preorder, that is a *huge* help, but if you can't, I completely get that. The best thing you can do in that case is request that your university or local library orders a copy - that helps sales, too! mcfarlandbooks.com/product/news...

There is a book cover and an official title for the #Newsies book, and I am so incredibly delighted!!! ❤️ Preorder links should be available very soon, and I will share those as soon as I can.
Book cover for "Newsies, Newsies - Read All About It! Essays on the film and Broadway productions." Edited by Emily Hamilton-Honey; forward by Vincent DiGirolamo. The cover shows a black and white photo of a denacing newsboy. The text is black on a yellow background, and loose pages of newsprint frame the edges.

Assistant Editor Goofy was unfortunately unable to attend, having become entangled in our AV cables and falling down a stairwell, but we will ensure that a recording is made available for him (and for you) in the coming weeks.

I'll post this a few times throughout, but if you're at PCA in New Orleans, study Disney, and would be interested in contributing video-based work to the @ijdisneystudies.bsky.social, holler at me. Send me a DM or say hi in-person.

You don't even need an idea! Just a desire to make something.

Keep an eye on this space for the arrival of our second issue, new editorial announcements, and further updates on Assistant Editor Goofy's condition.

Dr. Lisa Beth Fiore comes to us from Lesley University in Boston! Lisa's work emphasizes intersections of education, feminism, and intersectional identities, and hopes to work on larger projects aimed as decolonizing Disney through examining legal and geographical frameworks.

First, we have Dr. Laura Miranda of the Universidad de Oviedo in Spain! Laura brings a depth of knowledge on film and music - see her Erasmus+ project on opera in pandemic-era classrooms - with a special interest in The Three Caballeros and Disney's involvement in the Good Neighbor policy.

INTRODUCING...our new editors - officially!

As you know, we conducted an intensive search to rebuild our editorial leadership after Assistant Editor Goofy hilariously/tragically caught Galloping Hiccuppox, which is exactly as silly and horrible as it sounds. So let's introduce our NEW FRIENDS!

A thread on Disneyland refurbishment and construction signs—specifically those including Mickey (Walt's ambassador). Inspired by digitizing this ca. 1985 Swiss Family Treehouse sign for @joeguajardo.bsky.social, compared with a Tarzan's Treehouse sign from 9/8/2021.

Great review of @petecant.bsky.social’s book STAGING A COMEBACK. Buy it, read it, cite it (and request that your university/local library buy it).
