Gotta keep that prairie grand.

I’ve talked to a bunch of my neighbors about the new apartment building going up in the neighborhood. The ones with driveways are all fine with it. The ones without driveways aren’t so sure.

I stuck one in the window of a brownstone basement apartment and it worked just fine. They can be a little glitchy, especially when the weather is bad, but they generally work pretty well. You will not believe the weird stuff that gets broadcasted.

I support this as a pedestrian, but also as a driver. When I pull up to a stop sign, an SUV or pickup can completely block the view. You either have to try to look through the windows of the vehicle or just inch up to into the intersection to see if it’s clear. It’s nerve wracking.

I live near the first stop on two bus lines. I learned early that I need to get there five minutes before the scheduled arrival.

I like how this Cardinal uses a leaf like a placemat while messily eating the pokeweed berries in my yard. 🪶

Vomit-smelling fruit aside, I learned last year that most ginkgo trees drop their leaves very rapidly. Sometimes all in one day. There are some on my block and it’s cool to watch them go from giant yellow blobs to nothing overnight.

Part of the reason has to be that some of those neighborhoods ceased to functionally exist for about a decade.

I propose changing the name of the Great Horned Owl to Northern Mockingbird because it is most definitely mocking me.

I found a feather that I suspect is from a Great Horned Owl, a pellet full of bones, and whitewash all over the ground in my go-to owl spot. Did I find the owl? Absolutely not. 🪶

I think that she was able to be portrayed as more progressive than she is based on her race and gender due to the total dominance of social media. The right was able to completely own the narrative even though Trumps positions were (and are) wildly unpopular.

I think it’s because times have changed. Yglesias has been a proponent of the David Shor “moderate positions to win votes” school. I think that the 2024 election repudiated that pretty clearly. I have changed the way I think about politics as a result, but I don’t think Yglesias has.

Acadia opened my eyes to the fact that you don’t have to wait for migration to see lots of warblers.

The polling in the NJ governor’s race it much closer. Sherrill is up low single digits. Not sure if it’s a candidate issue, or the national environment is not that great for Dems.

I read once that there are two types of people in the world: people who like Van Morrison, and people who have met Van Morrison.
