A piece I wrote about having a nature deprived childhood.
There don’t seem to be enough articles about working class childhoods which were just a bit dull because you didn’t get out much , and family members were not very enthusiastic.
But you did have picture books of stuffed birds.😊

Just beginning to read @nicolawriting.bsky.social latest book.
I have already experienced that precious overlapping which occurs when a great writer simultaneously invites you into their inner life and returns your own to you.

I went the whole 20 miles to Whipsnade Zoo, but my father wouldn’t pay the extra cost for me to go on Zoo’s railway, so 48 years later I revisited and treated myself 😊

Lovely and insightful interview with a writer who ranges across genres , and more adeptly than many who stick in one lane.

Good God. They are desperate for their Reichstag moment.

The White House filmed this ad after the "Antifa roundtable" yesterday. I fear there's simply no way any of us can compete with the millions of dollars they're spending to make people believe Antifa is real.

NEW ANALYSIS: More than 80% of UK social housing still relies on gas boilers keeping bills exposed to international gas markets and climate targets out of reach.

I’ve explored how other European countries are tackling this at scale, and what the UK can learn.

All these blooms are tiny (less than 1cm) and growing in the cracks on the side of the pavement during my morning walk with the dogs. Easily missed, but offering endless beauty & form if you stop long enough to appreciate them.

Tonight Rowena Loverance explores with Friends the often complex & conflicted attitude of our #Quaker #faith towards #creeds. What are such statements good for? Do Friends need one? Do we perhaps already have one? There's still time to sign up.

Both my parents were enthusiastic members of choral societies- my father, who was from a Lancashire mining background being particularly fond of opera.
My autodidact tendencies were definitely nurtured in my mainly working class childhood, in the late 60’s . I am very grateful .

Excellent to see the musings of cultural commentator/historian/comedian Stewart Lee, gone from the pages of the Observer, have now reappeared on @thenerve.news. Bravo to the Nervers (nervous?) for giving him a platform. Lees' latest piece on burning flags is here www.thenerve.news/p/stewart-le...

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell is marvellous.

I am delighted that Disney have the rights but above all this is a gripping story, which echoes without direct imitation the greats of children’s literature , has fantastic animals, a heart, snot, and contemporary bite.
