On the same day, Queen Elizabeth I agreed to appoint 36 commissioners to act as judges at Mary's upcoming trial. In October 1586, Mary was put on trial at Fotheringhay Castle for plotting against Elizabeth. She was convicted on October 25 and sentenced to death. #2

Mary's brother, Henry VIII, arranged the marriage as a political alliance to secure peace between England & France. Mary's time as Queen of France was brief. King Louis XII died on New Year's Day, 1515, just months after their wedding. #2
