“I just got here,” Ondi signed dismissively.
“How?” Ark insisted with gestures.
“Transmat,” Ondi used a sign they themself were familiar with, but that meant nothing to the assembled astronauts.
“What is that?” Ark asked Empari out loud.
Empari shrugged. He signed, “What’s a transmat?” Repeating the same sign Ondi had used.
“Teleportation device.” Ondi crossed the bottom pair of arms. “I was on Alta Munda a moment ago.”
The sign for Alta Munda again made no sense to the Cosmada officers.
“Is Alta Munda your homeworld?” Empari signed back. “What species are you?”
“I’m a Human.” Ondi was clearly insulted by the question. “All Humans in my time are from Alta Munda.”
“Your time?” Empari’s signing indicated confusion.
“I’m from the 161st Century,” Ondi signed. “I’m a Splicer Technologist in the Time Corps of the Human Republic. I’ve come back in time to find out which one of your crew is a Vampire.”
There was a long pause.
It was broken by Fel signing one word: “Bullshit.”
