If there is an art to pointing out wrong behavior without offending the person, I have yet to learn and develop that. During the pandemic I was told to be ready to be the person everybody hates because I was assigned to implement the rules and guidelines. #HealthXPH
The trick here is TIMING. One should not appear vindictive& impulsive. The feedback should be given thru proper channels. The person most responsible for correcting the employee would be the direct supervisor. Report to that person. make them accountable for their responsibilities. #HealthXPH
T3. The powers that be hopefully will appreciate it when someone speaks up and not take it personally. Ideally, speaking up is not seen as disrespect but I guess that depends on the leader. #healthxph
Nobody wants to disturb the status quo. #HealthXPH feels like what we are going thru now in our hospital with the implementation of ZBB. The practices of charging fees to patients come surfacing now because all patients should have no out of pocket expenses.
Would it be possible to develop a "no blame" culture? Where HCW can openly admit their mistakes to find solutions or bettrr ways of doing things? #HealthXPH there has to be strong political will from the top to ensure this.
For those who are not comfortable with confrontations, there should be patient advocates who can accept feedback from the patients or employees anonymously. #HealthXPH
I think anyone who went through residency training will know how tough M&M conferences can be. I imagine this would be how it feels like to face a public announcement of one's errors. #HealthXPH but then again, valuable lessons can be learned from such huddles.
This might be the case in several situations esp if there is no office of special concerns or Patient Safety Committee. Who has the authority to act on these concerns? #HealthXPH
There's a sense of brotherhood or "pakikisama" in the workplace such that mistakes are at first privately corrected if at all. Telling on a fellow worker is the last resort. #HealthXPH This kind of culture frowns on speaking up about errors or safety concerns.
it would be nice for these doctors to be part of the BalikScientist Program so that whatever they learn from abroad, they can apply and transfer technology here... I went around New York on an endowment fellowship, but I observed how they managed PLHIVs there and tried to replicate here. #healthXPH
My closing thoughts would be that these "doktor para sa bayan" should be supported however we can, because they are the future public health servants who will lead our country and improve the system, take care of the patients when we no longer can. They are our hope!
Graduates should have an assured slot for residency training in DOH hospitals in case that is their career path. #healthXPH because tertiary specialty hospitals are part of the healthcare provider network as well.
at present there is a post-residency deployment by the DOH. maybe by the time they graduate the DOH will have a plan already for human resources for health - to distribute the healthcare workers equitably where they are needed. #healthXPH
I just hope that the students will be provided with the benefits of these scholarships as promised, and not have to deal with political problems like graft and corruption. This is why humanistic leadership and good governance should be incorporated into the curriculum as well. #HealthXPH
I think the students should have an enablers' fund to provide them opportunities to participate in students conferences and national/international research and academic competitions. A solidarity drive would provide them stability so that they need only to study and develop their skills. #healthXPH
Let us move on to T3. Aside from legislation (we have the Doktor para sa Bayan Act), what other kind of support do you think the "doktor para sa bayan" would need? #healthXPH
