almost looks like a UK artist announcement graphic for a weird alternative universe Eurovision 2003 where Latvia took the branding in an even stranger direction to the one they chose

kinda obsessed with the weirdly specific timings for Eurosong starting and finishing, feeling like I'm about to catch a train watching this

On today of all days, I felt like revisiting what is (supposedly) the biggest missed opportunity the UK ever had at Eurovision. 2010 didn't know what would have hit it.

What I've learned is that I could have completely ignored all my television/music industry/BBC sources for the last month and just pushed the random thought I threw out there on Bluesky whilst stuck in Christmas mode, and been exactly on the money.

The life of a UK Eurofan.
also I've been tracking what if any unknown artists Scott has played in recent weeks (when UK Eurovision comes out of hibernation we usually hear from him) figuring they might repeat the 2022 Sam Ryder R1 trick, these two artists stood out a mile:
-Elliot James Reay
-Remember Monday
my money right now is the next UK Eurovision announcement (not necessarily artist reveal) will coincide with Scott Mills taking over the Radio 2 Breakfast Show in the New Year. Some announcements that week whilst listenership is high.

Coincides with the Euro Trip postponing their interview too.

so the thing is whilst some of the cities didn't care about the insignia (Turin) and some cared a lot (Liverpool), it's still a bit of tradition and personality that the host city can no longer inject. Eurovision going forwards is very template and style guide-y and it feels like a loss.
🎁 The EBU has confirmed that from this year onward, the "friendship gift" has replaced the #Eurovision Host City Insignia, ending a 15-year-old tradition.

Between 2007 and 2024, each Host City added an Insignia to the ever-growing keychain of insignias.

I like this Swiss host, he's kinda budget Rylan with his little facts and tenuously connecting the country drawn to Switzerland via fondue or something

best words I got as a eurofan 10 minutes before the allocation draw was "we're cutting the meeting short"

That false alarm UK press release has reminded me to thank a LOT of you for checking in with me after that Traitors mess on Friday night. I was fine, almost everyone was chill and forgiving about it, and it's a good reminder that the BBC are both ambitious and *messy*

it was a WatchMojo video of all things that taught me that Telex (Belgium 1980) appeared on Top of the Pops in the UK a few years before

someone tell the Luxembourg scriptwriters that if you do the bit where you tease a break to ramp up the noise level in the arena you're not actually meant to go to a break 😭 #lsc
January 25, 2025 at 9:26 PM
oh it's over Laura Thorn landslide already #LSC

I can see why some like Mumford & Dude(lange)s but they lean a bit too Christian music festival for me #LSC
January 25, 2025 at 8:47 PM
if you couldn't tell by the documentary interval segment about France Gall, or the DJ and kids choir performing France Gall, Luxembourg have a song they'd like to win this NF. See if you can spot it! #LSC
January 25, 2025 at 8:37 PM
oh there's one more song??? we've had three interval acts already and one of them was a proposal #LSC
January 25, 2025 at 8:17 PM
sorry but directly referencing France Gall just tips Poupee over from 'subtle callback' to an eyeroll and a 'yeah okay we get it you want this one to win' #LSC
January 25, 2025 at 8:10 PM
utterly gorgeous interval act I don't even care that it was 4 songs into a 7 song final #LSC
January 25, 2025 at 7:55 PM
Luzac is a potential bottom 5 song of the whole NF season for me, I'm so sorry #LSC
January 25, 2025 at 7:42 PM
sorry to be predictable but it's Rhythmic Soulwave for me or else, not as good live as I'd hoped for and it might take a while to get somewhere but I love it so much #LSC
January 25, 2025 at 7:32 PM
I vaguely remember the production values being high last year but this is an amazing setup for Luxembourg, wish I cared more about all but one of the songs here but good for them #LSC

Just checking in after... that. I don't want anyone to be mad, just to clarify my source was solid and accurate and has been many times before on telly and music industry things.
I actually sat on the Friday Traitors info for a few days until I could confirm it so... yeah. Apologies.
