FSU alumni with season tickets to the Jacksonville Jaguars. I’m not well.

You could be right, but it saves 8 million dollars to wait 6 weeks to fire him. The best possible coaches to replace him will be coaching in championship games and playoffs in December and would be foolish to interview for the FSU job in October. Good coaches use adversity to pull the team together.
Keep Norvell, but learn from this. Don’t extend him, don’t ever offer anyone a 10 year buyout again, and try to talk the boosters into using the 100 million buyout dollars to instead invest in whatever the General Manager needs for FSU to start out recruiting Miami, UF, UGA, LSU, Clemson, and Bama.
Unless FSU is winning ACC championships and in the playoffs every year, it is failing to live up to expectations. FSU will be much better off if we become the first program to hire a general manager, solely in charge of recruiting, fund raising, NIL contracts, and player development and retention.
Only Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and Les Miles have more SEC championships than Gus Malzahn in the past 15 years. Only Dabo and Jimbo have more ACC championships than Mike Norvell. Norvell has been horrible over the past 2 seasons.
Dabo has won 9 ACC championships in the past 15 years. Jimbo won 3. Mike Norvell, Frank Beamer, and Pat Narduzzi(Pit) each have one.Hands down, Dabo is the best coach in the ACC right now, and they’re losing to lesser opponents every weekend this year.
I honestly hope Mike Norvell succeeds. I don’t think he will, but I’d much rather see money spent on NIL,recruiting and player development than a buyout. A 60 million buyout is guaranteed lost money, and there’s no guarantee the next coach will be any better.
Effort, discipline, and talent are the most important factors in winning games. How do you identify, recruit, develop, retain, and maintain that? Most coaches haven’t figured it out yet. Elite programs need to be churning out NFL talent every year so that the best players will go,buy in, and win.
In the transfer and NIL era, coaches contracts have to evolve into something different. If Mike Norvell really wants to keep his job, he needs to raise money and use his own money to recruit elite players and coaches to identify and develop them.
He already secured 100 million for the football facilities Jimbo wanted 10 years ago, and he’s going to try to use his own salary to pay for an elite quarterback and hopefully some linemen to sign at FSU. It’s a new era, and fsu only needs the boosters to replace him.
The contracts need to be incentive based. Coaches need to understand that with NIL and transfers, programs can’t be competitive year in year out and pay insane salaries and buyouts.
I agree. When you sign someone to an idiotic buyout, you really can’t fire them mid season. The very best candidates will be coaching in the playoffs.
Norvell has the rest of the season to prove he can coach and recruit at a collegiate level. Will FSU be able to win an ACC game?
Mike Norvell’s great great grandchildren aren’t going to have to work. Does the Norvell family deserve generational wealth because of an undefeated season and ACC championship in 2023?
The surrender cobra. This is really bad. FSU needs to find a coach who will do whatever it takes to build a winning program that will be a perennial playoff contender, recruit top 10 classes, and be in the ACC championship most years.
His 58 million dollar buyout is insane. It’s just as insane that FSU went from 13-1 to 2-10 and have now lost 9 ACC games in a row. What is the explanation? The mood can’t be that much better in Clemson. These are superior athletes regressing and losing to guys who won’t be in the NFL. Why?
Mike Norvell beat LSU twice, Alabama, ND, Clemson, and several other teams who clearly had better athletes, but he’s now getting beat by interim coaches, Jacksonville State, Memphis, every single team in the ACC, the worst Gators team in years… It doesn’t make sense to me.
I think it would be pretty cool to hire Jimbo Fisher as interim head coach at FSU tomorrow, and treat it like an audition for a 5 year contract extension. Recruiting would immediately improve, and if a better candidate is available in January, the Noles aren’t locked into anything.
The biggest 2 questions to me are 1. How come Brian Thomas can catch footballs from Jayden Daniels and Mac Jones, but he drops balls from Trevor Lawrence?
2. Why does Trevor hold the ball so long? 7 sacks aren’t all on the O-line
I just listened to it- good insights- he had opinions about some of the same people I listed and some I didn’t think of. Thanks for sharing. I like his idea about trying to structure the next coaching contract to be incentivized rather than selling security. I wholeheartedly agree.
The @jaguanfl.bsky.social need to sign a quality quarterback during the bye week. If Liam cohen gets credit for Baker Mayfield’s resurgence in Tampa, and it’s clear that Trevor Lawrence gets worse every week, Liam needs to find his next QB.
The Rams and the Buccaneers look like they are playoff contenders, even though they no longer have offensive mastermind, Liam Cohen, on their staffs. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars are imploding with Liam as their head coach. I seriously doubt Mayfield or Stafford miss him.
