on that note I just spent like, $40 total on *sixteen* books. i.e. $2.50 per book. Many of them, if you don't swing for the bundle, are under $2 per book. All of them have been highly recommended in my friendly discord server.

People straight up do not value something *at all* unless they either 1. Have done it themselves or 2. Have had to pay for it, either in time, or effort, or actual money.

like yes okay sure whatever maybe some people who download books off of various websites can't afford them, but lbr the primary motivation for it is ease. No need to decide which books you want to actually read, which ones you have the budget for, because you can just have all of them for free.

This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.
