Since 2006, Brazil’s soy moratorium has helped curb deforestation in the Amazon. Now Trump’s tariffs on China are increasing Chinese demand for Brazilian soy & putting new pressure on Brazil to end the moratorium. This could be devastating for the rainforest.

Still hope for coral reefs. Using 28-years of data in Seychelles, we find reefs recovering 4-5 years faster from the 2016 bleaching event, than they did after 1998. Also, a reef that had regime-shifted to macroalgae for over 15 years, is recovering to coral.

Genau, und sie sollen es auch gar nicht herausfinden müssen. Darum braucht es Lieferkettengesetze, damit Firmen selbst sicherstellen, dass ihre Produkte nichts mit Entwaldung zu tun haben. Wenn das Bürokratiegespenst diese Gesetze abschwächt, wird das sehr viel tropischen Wald kosten.
