I can’t believe I caught this 🦋
Just before noon, I figured I better check again… the hangar bay was opening!
Little out of focus for a few seconds, but I got the focus back- apologies- I was so excited & shooting w/ the sun on my viewer.

Larva of sawfly or hachigata-habachi (Tenthredo sp., possibly T. matsumurai). It is rolled up in defensive pose with the rear-end raised up. Head is tucked underneath. I love spotted creatures…. Tokikubo, Komoro, Nagano #Invertebrate #Insects

Larva of sawfly or hachigata-habachi (Tenthredo sp., possibly T. matsumurai). It is rolled up in defensive pose with the rear-end raised up. Head is tucked underneath. I love spotted creatures…. Tokikubo, Komoro, Nagano #Invertebrate #Insects

A female Western Gull was recorded riding 150km in a garbage truck from San Francisco to a compost facility in Central CA, probably to forage. TWICE. An innovator, an icon, a genius.
