TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

The Prime Minister credited 36 Months for convincing him to ban teens from social media.

This group accused experts who opposed the ban of being 'bought' by big tech. Meanwhile, it was lining up brand deals, eyeing global expansion & developing an AI tool to track students

Odd story. I've seen this painting dozens of times and guessed the artist wasn't great with noses. But no. In "The Madman's Gallery" it says that Federico lost his right eye in a jousting accident and, being a man of occasional violence, had a surgeon cut the notch to widen his field of view.

It’s almost 2yrs since the day Commissioner Catherine Holmes handed down her final report on Robodebt & referred those responsible for criminal prosecution. It was a day we felt like finally something was happening.
I’m so sorry to all victims who are STILL waiting for justice.

The boat was split in half. 9 men were dead. 2 more clung to a floating piece of wreckage and tried desperately to flip it over for 41 minutes straight. There was no possible way they were going anywhere.

Then they were killed in cold blood by the U.S. military.

Got a great* photo of my nephew, great-nephew and great-great-nephew.

Router karked (the case was discoloured with age and heat so fairly old) and I bought a new one, not from the ISP. It's all working and faster than before but the ISP could have been more helpful with settings. Turns out there are 16 connected devices on the network. Who knew?
