On this day in 1999, Greg Moore was killed in an accident during a race in California.
He was born in New Westminster, BC in 1975 and was a champion race car driver. In his racing career, he had five wins and 17 podium finishes in 72 races between 1996 and 1999.

On this day in 1993, Joe Carter hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to win the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays at Skydome. They defeated the Philadelphia Phillies four games to two. It was the second-straight World Series title for the team.

On this day in 1970, Pierre Laporte was murdered by the FLQ.
The Deputy Premier of Quebec, he was kidnapped a week earlier during the October Crisis. His body was found in the trunk of a car. In 1971, a stamp was issued in his honour. A bridge in Quebec is also named for him.
