Writer of werewolves and other things.
Chucked my first draft into an epub, uploaded it to my kindle and am ploughing through it as a reader for the first time. Not too bad so far. Bit wordy at times. Possibly use "fuck" as punctuation too often. But so far structure is good and it's made me laugh.

First draft of By Dawns Early Light completed, 3 days shy of a year since I started it. Now the hard part begins. With any luck it will be out around March./ April next year

Instead if what I originally had planned for the weekend (book stuff) I drove to Leicestershire and picked this little dude up. I have no regrets... well... maybe a couple

I feel ashamed of myself for even posting this and asking, but I need the help to take some of the stress and pressure away - me and my husband, and our three beautiful dogs, are hoping that you can help raise emergency funds to try and find a new house.

Phew. 2500 words down today. Some of them even in the correct order. That brings "By Dawn's Early Light" up to around 30k. Managed to slot in a character that won't be used again for probably two years but quietly sets up two other books. On a roll!

Ordered one of the High Moor T Shirts straight from the website to make sure everything worked smoothly and I have to say, I'm VERY impressed at how well they turned out. Very high.quality and printed straight onto the fabric rather than one of those grim plastic transfers.

Had an apologetic email from books.by earlier today. Still not entirely clear if this is just another chatbot or an actual person reaching out. Oddly enough, still no sign of my refund so I shall continue befouling all of their FB ads as and when I see them :)

Came across this article on Kindlepreneur that came out a few days after I parted with my cash. Definite scammers. kindlepreneur.com/books-by-rev...
Books.by Review: What Authors Should Know
Books.by is a new platform for authors that's been advertised a lot on social media recently. But is it any good? Here's what we found.

Yeah. Not the end of the world but irritating. No shortage of scumbags out there it seems
April 25, 2025 at 11:55 AM
Yeah, am annoyed at myself for falling for it. Shall make it my new hobby to ensure everyone knows they are scammers. Already messaged writer beware and posted on kboards.

3 weeks later and nothing. Their support line is just a chat bot. Their alleged guarantee is a joke. Couldn't tell you what their print quality is like, whether they pay you on time or any of those other things. But I am assuming none of those things will be good either.
April 25, 2025 at 10:02 AM
To put it in context, a 300 page 5 x 8 paperback would cost $4 per unit more than Ingram would.

I contacted them and told them I was cancelling my subscription. I got an automated bot response that directed me to their "100 day guarantee" with a form I needed to fill in to apply for my refund.
April 25, 2025 at 10:01 AM
So, I opened an account, paid the subscription fee and started working through their tools. To be honest, their toolsets were quite clunky and difficult to use. However it was not until I set up the first book that I saw the first real problem - their printing costs were astronomical.
April 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM
Their sales pitch was that you pay zero commission to them and keep 100% of your royalties minus print costs. Their costs were covered by an annual subscription fee of $200 USD, which they had reduced to $99 as an introductory offer.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up about an Australian based POD company called Books.by that appear to be scammers.

At first glance, they seemed to offer a good service - the ability to sell POD books direct from your own website, with them printing and fulfilling the orders.

See, now that just bumped your book right up the TBR list ;)
