A better solution is a Universal Basic Income that also provisions resources for *everyone*, poor, mid-, and rich alike, for the needs of life, such as food, shelter, water, energy.

A spend that the government will make for you if the "free market" refuses to let you participate.

It prevents profit-mad companies from competing on terms that can harm the poor.

If a "snap discount" were needed, it actually means SNAP benefits aren't high enough, and the program needs to pay more. That market & political signal could vanish, giving capitalists the power to control the public…

At first glance, yeah, but it actually prevents vicious problems in not-so-obvious ways.

If SNAP users get lower prices, the others might resent them even more, and try to kill the program through political power.

Parts of the food supply system will collapse if they are undercut in that way too.

but trying to solve the problem through differential price manipulation hands *even more power* to capitalists to fuck over everyone else.

They could force the poor to go to the "bad" branch that offers SNAP discounts,
or force to poor to scroll apps all day to get the discount.

The prices need to stay the same for all so that the full value of food can be spent into the rest of the economy.

You can argue that wages need to go up, or the government needs to provide work, or SNAP should pay higher

SNAP exists not only to keep those who are injured & unemployed & underemployed & underpaid fed,
but also to help keep farmers and the food delivery network steady when the economy is in trouble,
so that short-term problems don't become long-term ones.

It looks like you need to get some India Ink & brushes so you can flood-fill your deep space with black, to avoid the "felt markers don't give up their ink evenly across the entire paper" problem, and a bottle of white ink to use on top for perfect stars

Nobody could distinguish what the REAL price of anything even is anymore.

The government would have to decide if the SNAP should be CUT for all,

AND the food consumer is NOT the only person the program is made to help!

A dishonest "upscale" grocery store might use a run-down BAD subsidiary
to draw the poor AWAY from the normal stores,
by giving them "discounts" to go to their BAD stores,
so they can keep regular prices & profits sky-high at their flagship stores.

"Discounts" are NOT the same thing as actual help.

There's an ocean of scams that could result if skeezy businesses are allowed to target the economically vulnerable this way.

They might chew up all of their time, by forcing them to scroll through apps, for example.
