Greetings from sunny south-west Scotland where we’ve come to celebrate a big birthday for me tomorrow. They’ve even declared a special Scottish bank holiday in my honour. Officially they claim it’s because St Andrew’s day has fallen on a Sunday but I think we know the truth 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The only reason I think Your Party isn’t performance art funded by Nigel Farage is that he doesn’t know what performance art is.

Billy posing with his light show counterpart at Trentham yesterday. Un-illuminated of course. Not paying silly money to come back in after dark.

Just had some sad news about an old friend. The saddest news you can get about someone. Among much else Keith was the first person to play me the Pixies in 1987. Caribou. I shall play Come on Pilgrim and raise a glass. Rest easy mate.

The great William Blake was born on this day in 1757. I got lucky at O level English studying Songs of Innocence and Experience with a brilliant teacher.

The Death of Bunny Munro (book) only half-worked for me but the adaptation on Sky is certainly powerful stuff if still not one you’d want to watch with your nan. Special mention for the kid playing Bunny Junior who is genuinely incredible.

Don’t worry I’m not going to tell you my dream but it is noticeable how many of them still take place in record shops. Ruddy bloody blokes eh?

Off to watch Stoke v Charlton in a bit. I don’t know whether Nathan Jones has calmed down a bit these days but I hope so. Watching him have a ten-month nervous breakdown was even worse than watching his football. Give me Moderation Mark any day of the week.

When I was a kid the budget was always on a Tuesday. I don’t know when this ceased to be the case. Paradoxically I’ve stopped watching it now I can actually buy beer, cigs and petrol.

Freak Zone from last Sunday features Steve Hanley and (mostly) Stewart Lee talking about the Big Midweek audiobook. Look Know and Oh Brother also get a spin. FF to about 52 mins although you might want to play the whole thing as Album of the Week is Trout Mask Replica ♥️

Potentially fight-starting New Order take: Get Ready is loads better than Republic.

I hadn’t heard of this but the Much Better Half recommended it. Apparently it’s a big favourite of Larry David’s and I can see why. Wry, sly and genuinely funny in a way that so many ‘funny’ novels really aren’t. So to continue the chain: LD -> MBH -> me -> you. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Not expecting much from the mighty potters away at Leicester City Foxes today but quite happy to be taken by surprise as the actress said to the bishop.

Now playing Primal Scream’s Vanishing Point and having a drink for Mani. It’s a proper bass player’s album.

It’s Bjork’s 60th birthday (no pun intended) and I’d never thought about it before but this means she’d have been in our year at school (if she’d lived near Stone or I’d lived in her bit of Iceland). Call it a tenuous link if you like but I’m having it. Happy birthday Bjork me old mate you’re great
