This is really important.

What I make, is made my me - a human being, and I take a really dim view of 'generative' AI,

I'm not a luddite, there are definitely machine learning tools that make life much easier - but wholesale generative slop? Prompting a machine to think for you, no thank you.

I don't believe that there is any value in AI, in taking away the deeply human experience of making something, of thinking, iterating and using your brain to piece together a creative idea. There are people that will tell you it's leveling the playing field' or 'making creativity accessible', those people are liars, lazy, uncreative, money grabbing grifters who want to rip away something utterly fundamental to the human experience. Don't post AI, don't buy into it. Spend your time, joy and sometimes even money on real things, made with love and tears and skill and craft by real human beings.

Went out to Anamori-inari today. Just a few stops on the Keikyu Line from our place. Light was beautiful. Had some slow time, shooting with the Hasselblad 503CW and CFV50c back. A setup with eccentricities, for sure. So it makes me shoot very differently.

The large red torii gates and the little tiny ones, which are ones that used to be in the back of one of the rooms of the shrine before they renewed it. Which people had bought for luck, then brought back to cast into a room at the end of the year. To then buy another little gate for the next new year's luck. When the shrine was renewed a few years back, they totally redesigned everything and used the old gates outside like this. Hasselblad 503CW, CFV50c digiback and Zeiss-Planar 80mm f/2.8. Part of the parade of red torii gates at Anamori-inari shrine in Ota-ku, Tokyo. Hasselblad 503CW, CFV50c digiback and Zeiss-Planar 80mm f/2.8. Red torii gates, inari fox statues, the little red gates on a pebble surface. The way they renewed the shrine at Anamori-inari a few years ago is one of the best renewal jobs I've ever seen done on a shrine in Japan. Contemporary but not kitsch at all. Hasselblad 503CW, CFV50c digiback and Zeiss-Planar 80mm f/2.8. The main shrine building at Anamori-inari Shrine, Ota-ku, Tokyo. Shot through the gate at the front, with the white paper zigzags - called shide (\(紙垂\) - seen tied to the rope (Shimenawa (標縄/注連縄/七五三縄, lit. 'enclosing rope'). The torii gate separates the physical world from the spiritual, while the shimenawa symbolizes purity and marks the entry into a holy place. Hasselblad 503CW, CFV50c digiback and CF150mm f/4
