Some thoughts on Zach Polanski turning out to be rather good at this politics lark.

1. By raising issues like wealth tax, and Brexit, he has not so much shifted the Overton Window, as re-opened the awkward loo window that over-looked the garden, but has been rusted shut for the last decade

wait sorry is this the equivalent to having an Advanced Higher in English?!!
Good question. They are clueless about anything north of Watford.

MI5 head Sir David McCallum issued a stern warning Monday 13 October. New advice from the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) said politicians and staff should be wary of foreign interference in democracy. We have two words for McCallum: Morgan McSweeney.
If MI5 are worried about threats to democracy, they should start with Morgan McSweeney
Never mind Russia, China, and Iran. We have a real enemy within that hijacked a general election and tried to kill the free press: McSweeney.

Like spend, spend, spend, scrap the full funding rule so the bond markets don’t ’spook’ and start investing. Double all council budgets as a start, with consequentials given to devolved parliaments for their councils. Make a difference locally, start there. www.newstatesman.com/politics/eco...
Why the British state is a magic money tree
Government spending power is limited not by tax revenues or borrowing, but by the productive capacity of the UK economy and political will.

I find this very touching…& also worrying. Historian @timothysnyder.bsky.social has been an absolutely essential guide to this era. And if he thinks I’m right then we’re in more trouble than we realise
Carole Cadwalladr was right and we’d be in a better world if more people had listened.
This tweet has been doing the rounds on Twitter now that Nathan Gill has pleaded guilty.

If only someone had tried to investigate UKIP & Russian interference 🧐

There’s another timeline where the Guardian supported me, doubled down on the investigation & I look 5 years younger ..

Labour's existential crisis will only deepen with the publication of The Fraud.

Which begs the question: at what point will the corporate interests that Starmer represents conclude that the risks of retaining him outweigh the risks of defenestrating him?

Book review: ‘The Fraud’ offers the most damning portrayal yet of the Starmer project.

On the centenary of Thatcher's birth, there have been predictable calls for a memorial to her memory. But Britain's 2300 food banks serve that purpose already.

That New York Times story lots of people are sharing today about Farage's ties to US anti-abortion groups was first reported by @mc00.bsky.social on Byline Times a year ago bylinetimes.com/2024/11/29/n...

This goes even higher up. Forget Medvedchuk. Forget Medvedev

According to former Brexit Party MEP and defected Reform MP Rupert Lowe, the individuals at Gill's meetings claimed to be "close to Putin"

I'm sure BBC investigative documentary strand Panorama is even now working on an incisive exposé of Reform's financial links to Russia and it's just that they haven't announced it publicly yet

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

My colleagues & I have taken a huge gamble to set up @thenerve.news We’re trying to build a new independent publication from the ground up. Social media is our only distribution for now.

Sharing this article in your networks would make a huge difference. Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏

A BBC reporter ends his piece about the China spy trial collapse with the words "this story won't go away"
In contrast, the BBC newshounds have lost their sense of smell about Nathan Gill accepting Russian bribes.

Are Labour really going to try and tie current economic damage (and hence the need for further tax rises) to Farage and to Brexit, whilst at the same time insisting that persevering with Brexit is the right thing to do?

That feels like gaslighting of the very highest order.
