TFW you want to protest Trump from Madrid 😬😬😬
It's not Gutenberg classic but I do feel old 😊
Which she wrote using Word Perfect.
Not me, but I did spend a year of middle school falling asleep to the screech of the dot matrix printer disgorging drafts of my mom's master's thesis.
That's for the best. It's really terrible when you can't get a good glimpse of a dog out enjoying their walk. How else are you going to appreciate their inherent cuteness?
Yes. We also have reflective collars and leashes from this company for our pup. They are really well made. reddingo.com/dog-collar-r...

Good for other pedestrians too actually, I hate hearing the faint sound of someone coming up behind me at night and wondering if they're trying to sneak up on me or if they just always wear black.
As someone who gets Botox in my brow for my chronic migraines, I wonder if something like this would even work on my face.
That gear is way nicer than my $10 3M vest 🤣
Here's a snapshot of my coat closet with all of my requisite Big Dark gear.
A photo of a closet with colorful coats including raincoats on one side. And on the open door are hooks that contain neon yellow, reflective vests, and another hook containing headlamps.
I do wish more pedestrians in Seattle wore something reflective during the big dark. I keep a goofy reflective vest in my purse for walking around after dark for anyplace that isn't downtown. I aggressively share the road when driving, but it *is* really hard to see people in their all black gear.
Long Brothers Books in Pioneer Square currently has a nice set of vintage pedestrian shaming posters via the Automotive Club of Washington.
Wear White After Dark poster with a blue rabbit with a bushy white tail Look All Ways Before Crossing with a large pedestrian looking for two cars within his eyesight Cross Only at Corners poster
Those poor souls who fall outside the confidence interval for this scoring will suffer even more because caregivers will lose the capacity to understand and empathize with pain that isn't validated by an app.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

Protein Powders and Shakes Contain High Levels of Lead - Consumer Reports
CR tests of 23 popular protein powders and shakes found that most contain high levels of lead.

Schrodinger's theory of privacy harm. Your data can be stolen but as long as no one observes it, it's fine.
4th Cir.: customers who had their driver's license numbers stolen from their insurer's network by hackers and posted to the dark web have suffered a concrete injury sufficient to give them standing BUT not customers whose DL numbers were stolen and NOT posted.

www.ca4.uscourts.gov/opinions/231...
Bias, Cardenas, Holmes, and Shaw sued Elephant after their driver’s license
numbers were compromised in a breach of Elephant’s network. Cardenas and Holmes had
their driver’s license numbers then posted on the dark web. The publicity given to their
driver’s license numbers inflicted a concrete harm sufficient to establish an actual injuryin-fact. Accordingly, the two of them—along with anyone in their class, if their class is
certified—can seek damages for that injury. But they cannot recover any other form of
relief. And Bias and Shaw cannot recover at all. The requirements of Article III standing
prohibit plaintiffs from receiving redress for speculative future injuries or for injuries
incurred only in response to those speculative injuries. Accordingly, the judgment is
AFFIRMED IN PART, REVERSED IN PART, AND REMANDED.

In case you missed it, my piece yesterday on the 176 CISA employees fired last Friday, which will not go behind the customary archive paywall.

It's critical to note that sources told me more RIFs are in store for the nation's embattled cybersecurity agency.

The White House fired 176 CISA employees on Friday, with more layoffs feared
Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters leaked 5m Qantas, 23m Vietnam Air customers' records, Spanish cops dismantle GXC Team, Dutch gov't warns of China's Nexperia security risks, Breach of crypto betting platform...

I am baffled by the short sightedness of the dismantling of our cybersecurity infrastructure, especially given how paranoid, isolationist and nationalistic the administration is.
The Trump admin is laying off nearly 200 CISA employees & forcing dozens more to take new jobs at other agencies (sometimes across the country) or quit.

Morale & productivity are sinking at the already-depleted agency, further jeopardizing US cybersecurity.

My story w/ new details: bit.ly/3KLoptn
Layoffs, reassignments further deplete CISA
Some CISA staffers have been pushed out, while others are being told to move across the country for jobs outside their skill sets.

You do have to be a member of Club TwiT to join us. But anyone can read the book and I'd love to talk about it here :)
Take a break from the news this Friday at 1 PT for my Sci-Fi book club on Club TwiT. This session, we're talking about A Memory Called Empire by @byzantienne.bsky.social. I think of it as poly-sci-fi in that focuses more on political/cultural themes than space battles.

These guys have gotten incredibly rich by fleecing the government with subpar tech that was designed for rentseeking rather than performance. A smart Dem agenda item would be to build internal tech capacity. The fact that it would punish these guys is just a silver lining.

Ok friends, it's your time to shine: What visual metaphors are out there for LLM/AI resistance and refusal? Making slides for a thing!
The NIMBYs are alive and well where I live. I live a block from two affordable housing projects that are good! I volunteer to serve seniors, and we have clients in those apartments. It makes it really convenient to help them. This is what makes a community!
Update on Bainbridge Island's beleaguered affordable housing project: the city was set to hold a public hearing on a zoning ordinance that would allow it to move forward, but a SEPA challenge has been filed by a former council candidate.

This is going to add weeks if not months of added process.

Today I've got something different for you! This is the "Xtra Muse" — and it seems to be DJI's first attempt to sneak its cameras past US tariffs and bans!

See for yourself: this is a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, inside and out.
And animals have other senses. Things we can't perceive. Their worldview is literally different. How does that change their motivations, thoughts, etc?
I spend a crazy amount of time thinking about why orcas are trying to give us food and their different dialects. And even more time thinking about why we haven't used AI to figure out language between us a corvids. Let's broaden language in LLMs to body language for bodies that don't look like ours!
