Reminder that last year I made an iPhone app that always points at the centre of the Milky Way

It peaked at 87 in the US App Store free apps chart (Travel category) haha

Hereโ€™s what Ars Technica said about it

New app always points to the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy
iPhone compass app made with AI assistance locates the heart of the Milky Way.

One thing @genmon.fyi nails about agentic coding is that it absolutely has that playing Civ "just one more turn" itch:

looks like bsky ate some of the syntax, I've added a screenshot here

you give it an existing file (e.g. from your code repo), it uploads it to a new mist doc, and gives you the url to share/edit

posted this app request 5 months ago for a collab .md editor

the world runs on markdown files now -- but how can I quickly share AND comment/suggest changes?? couldn't find a solution

so I built it over the weekend

๐Ÿงต
app request

- pure markdown editor on the web (like Obsidian, Ulysses, iA Writer)
- with Google Docs collab features (live cursor, comments, track changes)
- collab metadata stored in file
- single doc sharing via URL like a GitHub gist

am I... am I going to have to make this?

Neat! Cloudflare DO all the way. Yjs/TipTap for sync and editor, and CriticMarkup for comments + suggested changes. Will you be adding those? Would love to get some interop on a file format for a proper distributed md-native alt to Google Docs

Something in the air!

You can host this tool yourself โ€” super useful
Nice. Did the same thing 2 weeks ago. What did you ended up using for multiplayer? I went with durable objects and had the durable object stored in the URL.

๐Ÿ‘‰ docs auto-delete 99 hours after creation. this is for quick sharing + collab
๐Ÿ‘‰ download then import from homepage: all suggestions and comments live in the text file

also try this from your terminal:

curl mist.inanimate.tech/new -T file.md

EASY.

A revolutionary idea!

When I got my iPhone I spent literally 30 mins pinch zooming photos and laughing

Have you tried Apple Vision Pro? I got an in-store demo and it should have been magical; goodness knows how but they have sucked out all the joy

my problem with Liquid Glass is that it isnโ€™t ludicrous enough. when I tap, send out ripples. dolly zoom all app launches. ghiblify the entire mail app, the whole UI at 60fps. run a crowd simulator on the alarm screen so thousands flee in terror as I swipe my finger. make my icons hairy

More chats (2020), including โ€œevidenceโ€ for UFOs. We donโ€™t get that now

The single new thing about computing that LLMs bring to the party is hallucination. I feel like weโ€™re sitting on how interesting that is

I love (a) the weirdness and (b) the brevity. Single sentence replies! Back to this pls

Ben Phillips builds the tool I wish I had as a widget on my homescreen

> So I built Packd, which reads the school emails and pulls out all events and deadlines.

For our home, Iโ€™d also love multi-user (my wife and I donโ€™t always get the same emails..)

WHOA now thereโ€™s an ancient memory

that loop between still-niche web 2.0 and corporate AWSโ€ฆ there is so much to be unpicked at how it happened (the people, things like etech) and what it did (mass blossoming but rentier economics and big tech)
